Honestly, Mavericks are giving Rondo the respect he deserves, and just maybe that is why he is thriving in their system.

He's not thriving in their system, but I agree with the rest of your post - Rondo being a bad teammate was pretty overblown IMO.

Just out of curiosity, how much have you seen him play for the Mavs, and in what way is he not thriving? I haven't caught them yet, but they seem to be playing pretty well with him in the lineup.

There OE has gone down 1.5 points since Rondo got there. It is a decline, but a very small one that is exacerbated by an oddly-scaled graph.

That, and one could argue that the Mavs previous level of efficiency was an anomaly that was bound to go down (i.e. Dirk is falling back to Earth after starting the season on a torrid shooting streak).

actually, rondo was brought in at least as much for defense. the mavs already scored well before his arrival.

any charts lying around that show the mavs defense since rondo? also, even with these charts, sss most certainly applies.

By the way, what exactly is "badmannering"?

BMING: A short form for "bad mannering." Occurs frequently in online games (like LoL, WoW, SC2) in which a player will insult, rage or swear at another player on his/her own team, usually for no known reason.

BTW, credit to Urban Dictionary for that.

4 of the 6 games they've played with Rondo have been against teams in the top 8 in defense overall. 6 of their first 27 games were against top 8 defenses.

What I meant is that he has been more energetic and seems to care more in his new team.  I read that Carlisle is allowing Rondo to be Rondo, and not forcing him into any system, because he understands that is how you get the best from him, a very special player.  That is totally opposite of Stevens' approach, even Rivers'.  I don't think Rondo has ever had a coach who understood him this way.  For example, Rondo's first game against the Spurs, Carlisle sent him to the middle of the zone to dismantle it by his creative plays, and he did it beautifully.  He was also key to their last three wins.  I am happy for Rondo and we may yet see even more amazing things from him.

But of course why should anyone on this board care, right?  Except, maybe, if you care about the game of basketball.

How about we give him more than five games before claiming Carlisle understands Rondo more than any other coach he's had in the NBA  ::)

Let it go. Move on. Hes gone, and is no longer a Celtic. Good grief, if free agents ever read Celtics blog after the way we criticize Rondo after his sad departure, you'd wonder if they would be very wary.

Can we please stop criticizing Rondo for everything hes done wrong? I mean wow, a lot of the fans here are extremely ungrateful. I know its ironic, I'm complaining about people complaining about Rondo, but hes been traded, and time heals all wounds for those who miss Rondo. For those criticizing him, good for you, I guess some people really need excitement in their lives.

TP! Nice job with the post and with the "Badmannering"!  Now all we need to do is create a PVP blog and raid those people!

This ^. Watching the actual games, you can see the defensive impact Rondo has had, not to mention the Mavs still have the best offensive in the NBA. Anyway here's a better stats image showing his true impact.

I agree, but that is what I hope will happen.   I truly feel that Boston have stunted Rondo's growth last few years, between management and coach, plus the rubbish that comes from media and fans.

I don't find it surprising at all that there is interest in how Rondo plays in Dallas, no matter what side of Rondo's aisle you are on.  I felt that Rondo was in general overrated while here in Boston.  He got all star appearances and selections to all NBA defensive teams but I never thought he was quite that good and that his flaws would be more exposed playing on a bad team.

Now that he is on Dallas, it is fun to follow how well he does.  I enjoy reading comments (both positive and negative) from people who have actually watched the Dallas games (I have not seen any of them).  I also enjoy reading the Dallas newspapers to see what they think of Rondo.

I don't get why it bothers people when there are discussions about Rondo.  Starting a thread to ask why are there so many threads about Rondo seems stranger to me than the fact that there are several Rondo threads.

Let's face it, we are all a little strange (fanatics I guess) if we are such big fans of the Celtics that we spend time on a blog to debate all things Celtics.  I suspect that to a non-fan, this would all seem very strange, but especially threads complaining about threads (and yes, I do realize that I just made a post complaining about threads that complain about threads so I admit that I am just as strange as anyone else).

And regarding Rondo, isn't he doing pretty much what he has always done?  He is a good player on a good team when there are other stars on the team.  From what I have read, teams are still sagging and daring him to shoot.  He is shooting more but really the results are about the same overall.  Is that badmannering?

Ha, I don't know enough about it, just saw it on twitter yesterday and then you asked the question and I was like, "oh ya I remember somebody was saying rondo wasn't doing well in dallas"

mavsoutsider.com has this to say about Rondo.  So much for his reputation of being "uncoachable" and "arrogant":

"As an aside, speaking to sources within the organization, they truly believe Rondo will succeed within their system. They said outside of Nowitzki, Rondo is a player that has stood out in recent years when it comes to guys who has a true desire to learn and grow. There’s that and the notion that he’s been extremely coachable.
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban commented this week that Rondo has been the easiest guy to communicate with in quite some time. He didn’t know what to make of that but it was still true, regardless. He also said that any preconceived notions or perceptions about Rondo no longer exist after getting to talk with him."
