Call me crazy but didn't Rondo WIN a title? Took a team to another one and might have won a second if my second least favorite player in the history of the NBA didn't try to break his arm.
Two totally different styles but the biggest difference is AI couldn't have played with other great offensive players like Pierce and Ray Ray while Rondo helped them excel.
Pierce established All-Star, Allen All-star, Garnett Hall of Famer. To think Rondo took a team anywhere is absurd. He was a piece to a large puzzle that put it all together.
Lets not forget, Pierce was already here.
Rondo is not Pierce nor is he CPaul. He is not going to attract any big time free agents here in Boston. We saw that last season with Anthony. Don't tell me Ainge couldn't have gotten creative like Clev did to obtain Love by trading salaries and picks to get Anthony signed . If Love told MN he wanted Boston he'd be in Boston. There is a reason, and it probably runs deeper than Rondo the player on the court.
All Im saying is, Rondo is a legit trade chip to improve this Team going forward with the rebuilding process. If you keep him here in Boston, your never going to win. He will age with a big contract you'll never move plus, I don't believe he is a true Leader. He proved that when he thru Stevens under the bus with the birthday bash!
Of all the Rondo points of view that I believe to be exaggerated, the "Rondo carried the Celtics to a Championship" is the hardest to understand. It is kind of like saying that Avery Johnson carried the Spurs to a championship in 1999 so he must be better than say Gary Payton.
Gee, do you think if Iverson had a player of the stature of KG and PP on the team that they might have done a little better? The team that Rondo is working with now is not all that much different than the team Iverson had although that Phi team was more experienced where as this current Celtics team is mediocre and young.
As to the comparison to Iverson vs. Rondo in terms of being talented and also limiting to the team for a number of reasons, I guess you can get there but I feel you have to connect too many dots to make all that viable of a comparison. I agree that Iverson forced you to build a specific team around him to allow him to do his thing and if you didn't, you negated much of his talent and contribution and there is a similar effect with Rondo but there are far more things about the two that are not comparable.
