Lowe really is one of the best in the biz right now.

Love this stuff.
He couldn't come up with a single Rondo trade scenario that made sense, Charlotte was the only one he could even half-heartedly play along with Bill for.

If Rondo moves it'll be at the deadline, and it'll likely be a complicated deal as there aren't any packages that make much sense unless a third team or injuries are involved.

I agree.  One additional scenario I would look to is a team who is unexpectedly in the playoff hunt around the trade deadline.

For the fun of it, my dark horse candidate (i.e. 1000-to-1 odds) is Utah.  Exum, Burke, 2 picks for Rondo (Or a 3-way with DWill returning to Utah).

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I love Simmons but god he's hilariously clueless sometimes. He's got the knack for getting a small seed of an idea in his head with completely irregular sidetracks and outcomes than one would've expected.
He's got the weirdest theories and assessments, on more random NBA topics scenarios than anyone.

I do agree that the Celtics will have a lot of leverage in just letting him expire and extracting as much as possible from the team that ultimately wants him, unless an offer blows them away it's so much more in their interest to let him expire and use leverage, whilst having the opportunity to sign him on for the most money as a free agent.

I'm starting to think the Celtics will have an edge in signing him because it's only lightly overpaying for an amazing player that's also a good business investment in what could be a financially hard period for ownership. It's gotta give the Celtics an extra 10% edge at least right?

We shall see.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I don't believe there's anyway they do exum for rondo unless exum is struggling mightily
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

I still don't see why Detroit doesn't make sense as long as both teams can agree on what to do with Jennings. Trade Rondo for an s/t Monroe. Detroit can either buy out Jennings or trade him to us along with a 1st round draft choice in exchange for Bogans and Anthony. Rondo will be with his best friend Josh Smith and should be willing to sign there.

Rondo in the triangle?

Yuck

yeah, when i think of the triangle i think of jim paxson and steve kerr, also fischer i suppose. kind of anti-rondo pg's  mostly just stand out there are drain big 3's.  i suspect phil jackson may not be that interested actually.

Even then, is Utah really going to give up on Exum halfway thru his rookie season at his age?

This isn't Rick Pitino running the show there with Billups.

have to agree I'd be surprised if they'd trade Exum that soon and if they did, Exum has to be looking like bust material.

Not that I'm a fan of either Burke or Kanter/Gobert but a Rondo Deal around those 2 and 2 firsts may be a starting point though I'm loathe to trade Rondo for unproven young players.  I just don't see Utah in a position where they think it'd be worth their while to trade for Rondo even if he did agree to sign with them.  Utah's going to challenge Philly for worst record this year and those are likely the only 2 teams to finish worse than the C's.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
I've always thought the Knicks were an intriguing spot for him. I can definitely see him ending up there. I still think Dallas is a dark horse for him.

I think Rondo starts the season in Boston, but I have no idea what to expect this roster to look like after the trade deadline
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I think Fafnir's statement is an important point.  There seem to be only a handful of teams that would be likely landing spots for Rondo.  Most of those teams don't have the trade assets that the C's would want.  Complicate that with Rondo probably having a very short list of teams he is interested in, and you get a difficult situation to develop a trade.

Even if RR wanted out, DA may just sit tight and let the trade deadline pass and then let the market determine somewhat what happens with Rondo.  If he comes back to the C's for less than the max then great.  If Rondo finds another team he wants to sign a max contract with then DA moves on.

If we are not getting at good value, why wouldn't we just let his contract expire?

Rondo to NY would be sweet - pound the ball for 22 seconds and then fire it off to Melo for the shot...

Simmons and Lowe -- disrespectful wenches?
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

I still wonder where you get this picture, your own C's team in 2k?

If you're convinced he's gone, then even a low first round pick is better than nothing.

But I think DAs dreams of cap space bringing in a FA to pair with Rondo on new deals will keep him from taking a small price like that.

I don't see why there can't be a three team deal where NY does get a PG that fits the triangle.

NY gets Bledsoe(S&T), Wallace
NY sends Stoudemire, Shump, and future first

PHX gets Rondo, Shump
PHX sends TJ Warren, Beldsoe (S&T), Lakers first, Minn first*

BOS gets Stoudemire, Warren, 3 first.
BOS sends Rondo, Wallace.

Laker's first is top 5 protected. Minn is really two 2nds.

Not a bad deal if team doesn't want to keep Rondo. Likely C's end up with near $30 million in cap space after this season when Green opts out.
