Knicks don't really have a future 1st to trade, though.

Simmons and Lowe -- disrespectful wenches?

Absolutely. Can't believe they don't think more teams would be dying to trade for Rondo. That Lowe crack that he passes 2 layups a game or a teammate to take a contested 25 footer was shameful. Lowe repeatedly said "he can't shoot", doesn't he see his FG%? They don't understand Rondo and his utter brilliance.

The Rondo hate list continues to grow:

Simmons
Lowe
Goodman
Jackie
Sheridan

40% from the field last year, 28% from 3 and 62% from the line.......safe to say he can't shoot...

looks like Ainge may have outplayed his own hand on this one. Rondo may just walk over to a division rival without compensation. That should make the rebuild another 5 years long.

I say TANK hard for Okafor.

And Celticsblog judging how much Rondo gets unappreciated around here.

If we are not getting at good value, why wouldn't we just let his contract expire?
If you're convinced he's gone, then even a low first round pick is better than nothing.

But I think DAs dreams of cap space bringing in a FA to pair with Rondo on new deals will keep him from taking a small price like that.

I guess that is the real question.  DA would have to be 100% sure RR was gone.  If I was DA I am not excited about trading RR for someone else's mid level / average talent and late 1st round picks.  RR's 12.9 mil + Bass 6.9 mil = 19.8 expiring.

But it seems everyone is convinced that either a) there are no top tier free agents left to go after in next year's off season or b) they won't come to boston no matter what.  I am not convinced on those yet.

If Rondo's gonna leave, he's gonna leave.

I believe him when he says he likes Boston and is comfortable there. Clearly, he has bonded with guys like Avery, has earned the Captain title and has comfort within the organization.

He knows Stevens is a good coach, DA is a good GM and there are good things to come for the franchise. If he opts to go elsewhere in free agency and not leave via trade it will hurt, but not colossally so.

I'm pretty sure he'll start the season here and will be back to his old self, only better.

I'm not sure he had a lot of options. We probably would have said good-bye to Rondo last off-season if it weren't for his major injury. This off-season has led to less than impressive trade proposals (on here and in real life, probably) due to the uncertainty that Rondo will return to form.

Sacramento's proposal (assuming we can get McLemore and Stauskas and assuming we can deal one of those two for a young center prospect) is looking better and better.

It's lucky for celticsblog that there are reporters making comments like that, it keeps traffic up. All of the Rondo critics who depend on having things like that to repeat in their posts would soon run out of material if they were left to their own devices.

I think Fafnir's statement is an important point.  There seem to be only a handful of teams that would be likely landing spots for Rondo.  Most of those teams don't have the trade assets that the C's would want.  Complicate that with Rondo probably having a very short list of teams he is interested in, and you get a difficult situation to develop a trade.

Even if RR wanted out, DA may just sit tight and let the trade deadline pass and then let the market determine somewhat what happens with Rondo.  If he comes back to the C's for less than the max then great.  If Rondo finds another team he wants to sign a max contract with then DA moves on.
If we are not getting at good value, why wouldn't we just let his contract expire?
I have difficulty in believing that just letting Rondo's contract expire is a legitimate course of action. The Celtics have never been able to attract a big time free agent and this team without Rondo would be almost every free agent's least desirable destination.

Let's not make the Antione Walker mistake again:  trading a player just to get something back.

We've never had room to sign a big FA since the salary cap hit.

Salary cap space isn't nothing, especially with Rondo and Bass both expiring, and Green expected to opt out, all next summer.

And that's okay.

If Rondo wants to resign for big money, he'd better bring an allstar friend with him as well.  If he can't draw other players to join him, he is DEFINITELY not worth a huge contract.
