During his latest piece for Grantland, Zach Lowe reported that the Boston Celtics have "tried like hell" to move Brandon Bass but "can’t get anything of value on the trade market."

I see no reason they need to rush, teams will come calling when injuries happen, and contenders for the playoff run. He is an expiring so he definitely has value.

Its in Ainge's best interest to wait till the deadline anyway. Bass is a nice player, he'll get something of value for him.

I agree, don't see Bass in our future and cannot blame Danny for trying to build a team and trying to clear salary cap

this.

Bass is a solid backup PF to bring in off the bench for a contender.  once the season shakes out and teams that think they have a chance to win but need a forward off the bench that can shoot and defend, the C's will get offers.

Same goes for Green.  I'd be surprised if both are still with the team after the trade deadline this year.  Green's option for 15-16 may limit his value since the acquiring team may see him as just a part-season rental.

for that matter, Joel Anthony may draw a little interest if he sees some court time and doesn't look completely lost out there

This likely means that either they don't want Bass taking minutes from Sullinger and Olynyk and/or they're trying to keep Bogans (his contract for a later trade) or Johnson.

I am guessing they want his roster spot for someone else, but would have to waive them if they can't move him.

The one reason to rush is that we have 18 players currently. Yes he can cut the non-guaranteed players if need be but clearly he'd prefer the flexibility. Plus he'd want Sully and KO to have all the 4 minutes.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

I am surprised they can't move him.  He'd be a good role player on a good team.  I can't believe there isn't a play-off team that can use a back up big out there.  Is his contract, I know it's expiring, bad?

The reason he is trying to trade him now is that he won't play during the season so they can't "showcase" him.  Kelly and Sully will, and should, get all of the power forward minutes.

  • No no no, not THAT "Eric M Van".
According to Lowe's article  there's limited place for his kind of game in this version of the NBA Today because he can't jack 3's, he's old(er) and he makes too much $$$$$.   (6.9 Mill?)

Teams just aren't all that interested (at this point in the season) in a guy who "is what he is" and the days of expiring contracts being ever so attractive appears to be way over.

With the amount of talent that came in to the league in this years deep deep draft, teams may just sit on "upside" talents instead of trying to shoe horn a limited talent onto their roster.

Nice guy in the wrong era.
"Because there are no fours."
-- Antoine Walker when asked why he shoots so many threes

"We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees."

I love Bass, but the only thing that annoyed me a bit is his similarities to Big Baby and their love for their jump shot. I know Bass can shoot, but I wished he kinda posted a little bit more last year

The key is value.  I'm sure they could trade Bass, they just aren't getting any value for him.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

The phrasing he actually uses is that the stretch four/three shooting big is being 'festishized among big men at the expense of other skills,' which I thought was quite nice (and accurate).

Always interesting to see just how much of the NBA is the blind following the one-eyed when it comes to NBA strategy and roster construction.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.
