If I'm the GM of a contender, I'm trading for Brandon Bass.  I think I'd be willing to give up a 1st round pick if I get a little something extra.

Which contender needs that hole filled on the roster, though?
Dallas.

They have Dirk and Chandler, who are each capable of 30-35 minutes, and then nobody.  They have Brandon Wright and Ivan Johnson after voiding Lewis' contract.  And Tyson isn't exactly known for his health.
good observation.  not sure what they have that would be good for us.  looking at the roster, only Parsons would be appealing and he obviously isn't going anywhere

Dallas, GSW, Portland, Miami, may and could all use his service

Thomas Robinson is young and probably the same as Bass but more athletic, not sure if Portland will do this, but I'd trade Bass and a 2nd rounder for Thomas Robinson...but that's just me

Philly. They traded away Young, and Bennett might be better at the 3. They have cap room, in fact, I think they're still below the salary floor. Trading Bass away for no return players would create a trade exception. That's good enough for me.

They also signed Al-Farouq Aminu who is capable of playing solid defense and giving them a little extra rebounding from the 3 or the 4. If they need anything, it's another big with legit size for added insurance if Chandler goes down. I don't think Brandon really fits there at all, they'd be better off taking a flyer on Emeka Okafor or someone similar.

Too bad GSW let their trade exception expire. They could use Bass with Speights getting into legal trouble recently.

Bass would be a nice big off the bench, he is a not a starter on a good team unless he is the fourth or fifth option.  He can shoot well and D some.   He is not a great rim protector, is undersized and always has been a weak rebounder for a PF.  He definitely has value but it is niche value.

I find both the bucks mentioned intriguing.   But Sanders is not without risk.   Henson is slight of frame but a superb shot blocker.   I would be happy if we could swing Bass and Bogans for something along his lines.
I would love to do a Henson for Bass and Bogans as you mentioned but Henson makes only $2 million next year, a team option $3 million in 2015, and a $4 million qualifying offer deal in 2016. This is great value for a player like this. Milwaukee would make us take Ilyasova at $8 million a year for the next two years in addition to Henson. They would also probably require at least our Clippers pick and maybe the Philly pick. Stylistically Ilyasova and Olynyk are quite similar stretch fours, so he would be of little value to us. That doesn't necessarily mean that you shouldn't do the deal but that would be a problem.

I want to trade for our future rim protector. His name is john henson and he plays for Milwaukee.
when he plays about 20 minutes he avg 11.1ppg 7.1 rpg and 1.7bpg with a PER of 17.97 and he is 23 years old.
he is also very cheap he costs only 2 million for 2 years. the money works out on nba trade machine here: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=nbj2svo
I say we give them bass and a clippers pick for him. we already want bass gone. were half way there and the bucks are rumored to be wanting to trade him.

I would love this trade...but Milwaukee won't do it... :-\

I am hearing people say that Milwaukee would not do it. I don't understand that if they weren't into larry saunders why did they pay him 11 million for four years. also here are links saying Milwaukee is interested in maybe trading henson.

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/21545485/report-milwaukee-is-looking-to-make-a-trade

Bass is an upgrade over their current starting power forward
 bass stats:11.1 ppg 5.7 rpg 0.9bpg and per of 15.01 with a contract of 6.9 million.age 29
Ilyasova ( their starting PF):11.2ppg 6.2rbg 0.1bpg and a per of 13.85 and a contract of 7.9 million.age 27
The articles say they want a mid-or late first round pick for him. So  I think Milwaukee might want this deal.

You're probably misunderstanding their motivations.  Milwaukee isn't looking to get rid of Henson because they don't want him.  Milwaukee sees Henson as a guy who can be traded for more than he's worth.  They're not going to trade him for whatever they can get, they will only trade him if they like what they get in return.  It was believed they could get a mid-first round pick in the 2014 draft for Henson, but they declined to make such a deal, if one was on the table, so maybe they want more value than that.  That suggests you would need to send them draft considerations that you think are more valuable than James Young to get anywhere.

Can't read the entire thread right now but been saying this all along.  Bass has at best, zero value.

I don't know what's Danny's asking price for bass but I think it's silly to say there's at best zero value for him
You're right.  Last year, when he had more time on his contract, Bass had zero value.  This year, as an expiring, he migt bring back a 3rd round pick  ;)

Again we don't know Danny's asking price, I'm sure there are a few teams interested in Bass, but the offers haven't met Danny's expectations.

Sounds like he's been hanging out with Faverani.

Ainge needs to stop overpaying for players like Bass and Bradley.

I don't think you understand the market real well right now.  Take a look around at the contracts that have been handed out in this league.

If the rest of the league jumped off a bridge, would you?

That is an irrelevant metaphor. Ainge's slight overpaying of these players prevents other teams from offering enormous contracts that he won't match. Ainge is almost getting bargain deals compared to deals like Parsons' and Hayward's.

Right... so if the league drives up the price of players, the Celts should just stop giving out contracts. Makes perfect sense.

bogans/anthony OK I get your point.....but BASS has proved to be a valuable roleplayer who generally averages 10-12ppg and spaces the floor. I can think of alot of teams who could use that kind of player.

bogans/anthony on the other hand offer nothing

Except Parsons and Hayward are both by far better players than Avery, but also overpaid as we know it now.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

this is true
at this point in bass' career he offers a team, good veteran presence, good defense, nice jump shot, very good free throw shooting
wonder if ainge is thinking of ko for some minutes at center if he can't do any trades to our benefit with the logjam at pf
as someone else stated you can make the argument for bass being our mvp last season
id say he was our most consistent player for the entire season
