I'm just agreeing with Mk that there are 20-25 ppg guys somewhere on the waiver wire most likely.

Are you saying the next Biyombo can be had by scouring the waiver wire?

Next Biyombo is Clint Capela.  Don't sleep on that kid.  In 3 years, he'll be worth a lotto pick as well.

Didn't you trade him also?  Not bad --- a little post trade primping.  :)

Last year's Toine's Boys 2nd round draft pick, Clint Capela. Him and Damien Inglis. I dropped both early in the season, picked up Inglis again at the end.

Final note on Biyombo before we transition to 15 pages about Sauce Castillo (and the fact that he shot 42%/42%/86% post all-star break)...

If he gets 30 minutes per game somewhere next year, I expect him to get close to 30fp.

This isn't a crazy wild overhyping... it is what it is.  He's proven to be a fantasy point per minute guy.  His rebounding and blocking ability produce fantasy points.   He averages 13 rebounds and 3 blocks per 36 minutes.  Combine that with his garbage offensive game, it results in him only taking extremely high efficient shots around the rim.   30 minutes = 30 fantasy points.  Bottom line.  There's a chance he'll develop into a bit more than that, but it doesn't make much sense that he'd stop being able to rebound and block shots with additional minutes.

It's just a matter of whether or not he'll get the minutes next year.  He's a restricted free agent.    You guys can bash Biyombo all you want, but you must be operating under the assumption that Biyombo will either end up on another team's bench or end up out of the league entirely... which is highly improbable given the demand the league puts on rim protectors.   Last we saw Biyombo, he was spending the last 11 games of the season as a starting center averaging 30 minutes per game.  Averaging 7 points, 9 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 53% shooting and 64% from the line.

You're all betting against him.  I'm betting for him.   Either way, our subjective opinions will either be proven right or wrong within a few short months.  If for some reason, the free agent finds himself on a team that is unwilling to give him minutes (despite the fact we all acknowledge it's going to take a 25-40 million dollar investment to acquire his services), and his future looks so dismal that none of the other 19 teams in this league wish to wait it out with him... you're probably right that he'll be cut.    But in the more likely scenario that he ends up on a team desperate for rim protection (such as the Celtics), see's a deserved boost in role and minutes, and starts averaging over 30fp... all you guys bashing him will likely want him on your team.   I'm already getting trade requests for him... some from teams that have bashed him in this very thread.   I would have gambled on 27 year old Asik.  I'm happy to gamble on 22 year old Biyombo.

@ LRB33: For one thing, everything that Biyombo has done this season has been surpassed by Jason Maxiell, who I would hardly call a defensive anchor, and by our own Brandon Wright, in the hot minute he was on the Celtics (another player who I would not clamor for as a rim protector).

Maxiell +Biyombo overall:
http://stats.nba.com/league/player/defense/#!/?Season=2014-15&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&TeamID=1610612766&sort=PCT_PLUSMINUS&dir=-1

Maxiell + Biyombo within six feet of the rim:
http://stats.nba.com/league/player/defense/#!/?Season=2014-15&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&TeamID=1610612766&sort=PLUSMINUS&dir=-1&DefenseCategory=Less%20Than%206Ft

Wright overall:
http://stats.nba.com/league/player/defense/#!/?Season=2014-15&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&TeamID=1610612738&sort=PCT_PLUSMINUS&dir=-1

Wright (and the rest of the Celtics) within six feet of the rim:
http://stats.nba.com/league/player/defense/#!/?Season=2014-15&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&TeamID=1610612738&sort=PLUSMINUS&dir=-1&DefenseCategory=Less%20Than%206Ft

Based on the numbers, as well as the eye test, the incremental improvement that Biyombo could bring on the defensive end does not outweigh his total ineptitude on the offensive side of the ball. The C's, as currently constructed, could not afford to play him more than 20 minutes per game and still have anything resembling a reasonable NBA offense: this is what happened to Charlotte over the course of the season, and why he has seen his role diminish as the team shifted towards wanting to win games.

@Pho: That's a valid point. I think bringing him here as a project/gamble is fine (I thought the same thing about Fab Melo) but I would temper any expectations towards him being able to find legitimate minutes on a competitive Celtics team.

Buuuuurrrrrnnnnn!!!

Gotta give props to the GM for his pimping abilities though. The man is trying very hard ;)

Is Jason Maxiell on the waiver wire or is he on some team in this league? If he is, that GM just hit the jackpot! Multiple first rounders should be coming his way!!

I wish D.o.s was a GM in this league. His back and forth re: Biyombo would have made for a great read. For those who haven't checked the Summer Prediction thread, do it. Read LB33's posts and D.o.s' posts. ;)

Don't do this. Please. Seriously. :-X

If he gets 30 minutes per game somewhere next year, I expect him to get close to 30fp.

Considering that of the 90 or so guys who averaged 30 mpg, 60+ averaged 30fp this isn't a particularly bold statement, IMO.

You're right, the 25 posts, 2 diff memes, and posts across 2 diff. threads is the over-hyping  8)

You're right to have traded him. And you would have been right to keep him. There's no magic formula in this or any other league.

This arguing over who is gonna be right about the future is pointless. You'll agree that FA signings like Biyombo have helped teams and have failed miserably. Pick your side and roll with it. Then, if you're like me, bang your head on your desk b/c what you thought would happen failed miserably.

Oh boy! The pimp machine is working overtime. Apparently, LarBrd33 has two elite and dominant players on his sqaud - MKG and Biyombo. Hide your first rounders, fellas! LarBrd33's drones are hunting for them.

I wish some GMs would read up on his crap and research before they agree to give up a first round pick for a box of carbohydrates!

I don't blame you for thinking every comment I make on a sports forum is related to this fantasy team, but that's not the case.  I was "pimping" MKG and BIyombo years before I joined this league.

I'm bored talking about Bismack.  At no point this week have I even shopped him.   I offered him up in trades a week ago along with MMSB's 1st rounder, but it was presented as an option... "I need to free up a roster spot... i'll give you all these picks + your choice of Bennett, Stauskas or Biyombo" ...    It's not like I'm writing this stuff to inflate Biyombo's trade value.   He's either going to sink or swim and we're not going to know until early next season.   I'm gambling on him over selecting a potential bust 5-15.  I see enough evidence to like this gamble more than the draft pick gamble.

Let's talk about someone more interesting like Shane Larkin.

This is amazing! Someone (perhaps you, LarBrd33) needs to get in his ear and tell him that people have been waiting for years now. Arm the catapults already!

How many years does it take to motivate him?!?

He impressed a lot of folks this season.  Earned himself a fat contract down the stretch... maybe from the Celtics.

I'd rather talk about Steven Adams right now.  Dude is a beast.  Nearly 8 points, 8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks last year.  Huge future.  Only 21 years old.  Nice mustache.   If I had the roster spot, the lotto picks, and wasn't in the midst of a 1-week self-imposed suspension from sending trade offers, I'd pay a pretty penny for Steven Adams.
