I just want people to stop pretending Sully is some great trade chip. I don't give a crap what his contract is. He just isn't coveted. It's going to be about how many of these first rounders Danny will part with that will make this a possibility.
I'm curious as to how you're familiar with how Sully's value is rated around the NBA.
I think sully is a nice young player, but he has less trade value than Terrence jones right now. That should give you an idea of how coveted he is. If you think Terrence jones could be the centerpiece of a Kevin love trade, then that's just more evidence that Boston has significant competition for a love trade. I think boston fans try too hard to relate sully to big al... Sully doesn't have that level of trade value. People forget that big al looked like a lock to make all-star teams and average 20 and 10. He had arguably the best post moves in the league and people were questioning if his future was brighter than Dwight Howard. On the flip side, Sully might not even he a long-term starter. Kelly olynk arguably has a brighter future.
Also, there are homers who tell themselves "well Kevin love was fat when he entered the league and sully is fat now... So clearly sully is the next Kevin love". I mean... Come on... Glen Davis was fat too and he's still fat. I hope for the best but I just don't think sully has the kind of potential a lot of boston fans think.
I agree with you, but again, what's the rationale for deciding that Terrence Jones has more standalone trade value than Jared Sullinger? I'll assume that you, like me, are too busy to make the feeler phone calls/tweets/texts to various front office types to get a handle on this, so I'd like to see some deduction.
Fine.
Jones - 22 years old - 2012 18th pick 6'9 252
Sully - 22 years old - 2012 21st pick 6'9 260
Jones - 27.3 minutes, 12 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1.3 blocks, 54%/31%/61%
Sully - 27.8 minutes, 13 points, 8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.7 blocks 43%/27%/78%
Stats about even. Jones is a better offensive player and better defensive player. Sully got more rebounds, but he wasn't sharing court time with Asik and Howard. I give Sully credit for being a better free throw shooter. Jones gets the edge because he was a contributor on a playoff team and isn't injury prone.
Granted, it's close. It's darn close. Due to Sully being chronically injured, Jones has the edge as far as trade value is concerned.
Point is: Neither has a ton of trade value, imo.
