So the Celtics build a new big 3 for a year with Melo (most overrated player in the NBA) and Kevin Love (2nd most overrated player in the NBA) and Rondo (3rd most overrated). This should go over real well by January. Plus these guys have been out of college for so long I doubt they would respect Stevens. I want blue collar players on this team. I want young and exciting talent. We've seen the best of Melo and Love. I want to see the best of Embiid Parker Wiggins and Exum
So do you think that a hypothetical lineup of Rondo/Sully/Green(Embiid/Parker/Wiggins/Exum), while young and exciting - would win many games?
Say we get Wiggins...and perhaps Danny gets Asik.
So we'd have (under your plan):
Rondo
Wiggins/Parker
Green
Sully
Asik?
That team would make the playoffs, but that's it...with extreme luck maybe 2nd round.
If we're fortunate enough to land KLove (and Melo), I'd be VERY happy. We can win those three.
The NBA is a Superstar League...only exceptions to this is San Antonio....I have no earthly idea how Spurs do it.
Carmelo Anthony had perhaps his best year ever....shot efficiently from deep and the field...rebounded more...passed more...and kept his mouth shut for the most part. He put his head down and went to work every night. My perception of Melo has changed after last season.
I really believe Melo gets it, now.
KLove? Man has been an All-Star as well...my only knock is his lack of defense, but that would get better in BOS, with Rondo leading the team.
IMO, Rondo-KLove-maybe Melo? Places us in contention status...if we can get Asik? Even better.
Those young players in BOS that you mentioned would be entertaining, but Boston is Title Town. We need Stars to win titles.
Getting KLove could perhaps be that 1st shoe to drop.
I already proved earlier in this thread that Love isn't that bad on defense, and I agree about Melo... Melo eerily reminds me of Paul Pierce in '07... Does everyone forget how much crying and bickering he had with refs, and the constant struggles of leading a team by himself? After Walker was traded, Pierce was extremely upset, and felt he wasn't going to win anything.
As for the Spurs, don't get it twisted, but I think Leonard/Duncan/Ginobli/Parker is all you need imo... When you have one of the best coaches in the NBA... ANYTHING IS POSSIBLEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
Good post.
I feel like I'm reliving 2005 and 2006 here. People were convinced across the Celtic Internet that a title was imminent with the ghastly collection of scrubs we put on the floor.
Telfair was Cousy, Delonte West was DJ, Ryan Gomes was Loscutoff ... The insanity went on and on.
And then Ainge tracked down a couple of teams selling HOFers for pennies on the dollar, dumping his epic collection of flotsam on them. The anger here was palpable. Posters disappeared. Forever.
What the madness was, I cannot say. Some people do enjoy carving hunks of flesh out of their body, and many was the time I thought of them as posters rhapsodized about Tellfailure, Brandon Hunter, Allan Ray, Gomes, etc.
Although the Celtics hit rock bottom on the floor, at least the posts comparing Brandon Hunter to Paul Silas were honest, if madly ill-informed, comic relief. Kind of like one above today saying Rondo's better than Kevin Love. Talk about a time-warp trip back to 2005-6.
And, I do recall one poster here saying he enjoyed bad seasons more than good ones. There's a certain amount of masochism in the Celtics fan base, for sure.
Today, Ainge actually has some talent to move. Along with good draft picks. Along with contracts. And yet we have emotional calls to build from the draft - which no one does.
Amazing. I guess some people don't appreciate the Celtic tradition of excellence.
