My first thought was, "Wait... K-Mart?  Why K-Mart?"... but I guess he's coming off a fairly decent season.  I'd rather we got after Afflalo.  I think he's just as available.  He'd be a nice pick-up, but I'm not exactly sure what it would take.  Probably Bradley and a 1st?

Second thought:  Oh, maybe you're including K-Mart, because his contract is kind of horrible and 'Sota would want to dump it.  I get that.

Third thought:  Not enough for Love.  You're giving up a #17 pick (meh), our unprotected pick next year (which would be 20-25 if we turned it around... meh)... and our 2018 pick (meh) + Sully (meh).   That's 4 "meh" assets for a borderline superstar.

But then to make salaries match you're asking them to take on Wallace's final 2 years and another meh 2016 Boston pick?  Don't see that happening, unfortunately.  It's a lot of late 1st rounders for a superstar.  A classic "pu-pu platter" trade without any tangible bluechip player in the bunch.

If you're going to discuss a trade for Love, you'll need to start with our 2014 unprotected 1st.

That said, the idea of trading our 2015 Clippers 1st + Pierce TPE for Asik is certainly dooable.  Houston wants a 1st for him.  That'd suffice.

So Love and K-Mart make about 22 mil combined.  I guess the logic is that they'd want to dump K-Mart.  Fine.

If you could do Wallace (10 mil) + Bass (7 mil expiring) + Sully (1.5 mil) + our 2014 pick (Top 8 pick) + our 2016 1st + 2018 1st + Brooklyn's 2018 1st, I think 'Sota considers it.    If we win one of the top 3 picks in the lotto on Tuesday, you can probably get away with giving up one less pick.

Then I guess I'd do the Asik deal.  Pierce's TPE + 2014 #17 pick for Asik.

Then I probably call up Melo and ask him if he has any interest in playing in Boston, because if he does... he could just tell NY that he has no interest in returning and force a sign and trade.   Boston could give up Jeff Green (9 mil) + Bogans (5 mil expiring) + Joel Anthony (4 mil expiring) + Bostons' 2015 pick + Clippers 2015 pick + Brooklyn's 2016 pick for signed-and-traded Melo.

PG - Rondo
SG - Martin/Bradley
SF - Melo
PF - Love
C - Asik

6th Man - Oly

Maybe down the line you can package Bradley and Oly for an upgrade SG.

Team still probably doesn't win a title, though.

Wallace is a negative asset right now so he won't be appealing to the Wolves in any deal as they will have other options.  I think it would have to be some combination of Bass's and Anthony's expiring deals, Bogan's contract, or Jeff Green.

^^^ LarBrd. Good ideas but it will come down to how our offer compares to what other teams can offer for Love, Melo and Asik.

Sounds like quite a bit more than the Zen Master is reportedly ready to offer:

Same here.  I'd probably rank them:

1.  Warriors
2.  Bulls
3.  Rockets
4. Celtics
5. Suns
NA.  Lakers -- this is an illegal deal, as LA can't deal its 2016 #1

I'm not sure about the Celtics vs. Suns, if only because the Wallace contract is that bad.  If you substitute the non-guaranteed contract of Bogans and the expiring contract of Bass, it looks a lot better for the Celts.

Yeah, take Wallace out for the Celtics and it becomes 2nd to only GS.

I don't see GS trading Lee and both Barnes and Klay. Maybe one but not both.

Everybody coming back in the Bulls deal is likely a role player at best.

The other problem with a lot of those trades is you can't trade a signed player with other players and that can't happen till long after the draft.  Thus, the Wolves would be getting whomever that other team drafted rather than picking who they want to draft.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Like anyone else, when you hear the Love rumors you get really excited.

But then, when you see how many other teams will get involved in the sweepstakes, you get discouraged.

I mean when the Rockets, Bulls, Warriors and Lakers are all mentioned, I don't feel great about the Celts chances as at least 3 of those 4 teams have more to offer than we do.

Rockets could offer Harden, Warriors could offer some combo of Thompson, Lee and Barnes, Bulls coud offer Butler and Gibson and then there's the Lakers, who Love could just very easily sign with as a FA, next summer (Lakers will have the cap space, whereas the Celts won't.)

And who knows which other teams may try to get involved

Granted, Celts have the draft picks going for us which is pretty big.

Keeping my fingers crossed ;D

This is why sometimes I still wonder how we ended up with KG back in 2007.

I think what we are missing is a wildcard. Another move and/or player that can convince Love that the best place for him is the proudest franchise in NBA history, and it involves green, not purple and gold.

I imagine that the Wolves and the team receiving Kevin Love would have worked out who to take in those scenarios.

I agree, but I think that you have listed the best offer for teams 1-3, and you have not done so for the Celtics or the Lakers. If the Lakers were to win the lottery, for example, they could make a better offer around the pick and the expiring contract of Pau Gasol. The Celtics, likewise, could make an offer that doesn't carry Wallace. Depending on the draft lottery, either team may be able to make the godfather offer.

But does it matter? Kevin Love is going to chose his team. The Wolves won't get to chose it for him. He's a calculating dude; I think in the end he'll go where he wants and Minnesota have to take what they are given. If he wants to go to LA or Chicago, he will go there and no pick higher than #4 will change hands. Minnesota should hope that he picks Chicago.

What we need is a sf who can score not a big man who can't defend. Let's just sign Greg Monroe, trade Jeff Green, Joel Anthony, Humph, CJ & 2 first rounder for Melo, then draft Aaron Gordon (Because Exum is lakers fan) & TJ Warren. NY will  have two good players & two pics for next year. Melo would be happy to play with Rondo & we'll keep Sully & Olynyk.
Our roster will be:
PG: Rondo, Pressey.
SG: Avery, TJ Warren, Bayless.
SF: Melo, Aaron Gordon.
PF: Sully, Olynyk.
C: Monroe, Bass, Fav
:D

I don't think they will take Wallace's bad deal.
