A few things that have been driving me crazy, while reading this thread, that I'd love to put to bed...
1) Danny Ainge is NOT dealing a single asset for Kevin Love, unless Love agrees to an extension...History leads you to the answer: KG had to sign an extension, Love will have to sign an extension. I don't believe there is a single scenario that involves the Celts dealing for Love without a deal being agreed upon beforehand.
2) Kevin Love is not thee answer, but he's a big time step towards thee answer...Kevin Love is a top-10 to 15 player in the league (closer to the former than latter IMO)...You don't get the opportunity to land someone of that ilk very often. But, again, it is NOT a case of Love = Championship.
3) Ainge is going to have to give up a number of tantalizing assets to make this deal happen...For anyone who is hoping Gerald Wallace and a couple of draft picks is going to make it happen, think again. If Minnesota doesn't get what it wants, they'll wait until the deadline in February, when teams that are in contention are willing to give their vital organs for a top player.
4) The people who continue to post that Love isn't that good and that he's just taking advantage of being on a bad team...Did a single one of you feel the same way when Paul Pierce was an All-Star on a terrible team? Or, no, because it was the Celtics! As a matter of fact, it could be argued that it's more impressive what Love has done, because he's the only guy on that team that you need to game plan for. Yet, he's still going for 26 & 12....
All of that said, I'd wait and see where the C's land on Tuesday night and make my call on draft night...The only player in the top-3 that I think is someone who would be worth keeping instead of Love, is Embiid....The probability of finding a scoring wing is much higher than a 7-foot rim protecting big who has a ton of potential offensively, as well.
If Embiid's back checks out and he's there on draft night, no thanks Minnesota...If Embiid is off the board, then I'm calling Flip. Let's not forget, Love is only 25...Guy still hasn't reached his prime. The most you should reasonably expect from the kids in this draft class is to have an impact similar to Love. The difference? Love is already established. You know what you are getting.
