Unless Zach Lavine is available

Yup, you never pass on shooting & athleticism in combination.  It's as close to a sure thing as you can get, by sure thing I mean a non-bust. McDermott's lack of athleticism might make him a real liability defensively and limit him offensively.

But what if Mcdermott turns out like Korver and Lavine like Courtney Lee??

I rather have Korver

What if McDermott turns out like Adam Morrison and Lavine ends up like Russell Westbrook?

(See how easy that is?)

nice try but no.

Morrison looks like he runs with one bad leg. Like one leg is shorter than the other. Mcdermott is quicker and also stronger than him (at the same age). Morrison also had little to no scoring skills near the basket vs Mcdermott who has lots of moves

Lavine is not fearless like Westbrook. Forget the athletic abilities for a sec. He prefers to shoot as much as he can, vs utilizing his athletic tools and slashing to the basket.

McDermott is slower even than Kyle Korver, which is really scary at the next level.  Lavine is a completely unknown quantity at this point.  I'd rather grab somebody like PJ Hairston or James Young.

Mcdermott vs Korver on a straight sprint might be slower, but in terms of who has a higher motor, that would go to Mcdermott. Mcdermott has an elite level motor

For perspective, if McDermott ends up being Kyle Korver's equal, then that means he would be replaceable through free agency in any given year for around $5 million.

McDermott could be a good player with a long career in the NBA and still not be the sort of asset we ought to pursue in the draft.

Wouldn't you rather use your rookie contract on a player with an all-star-to-washout range of outcomes than a Kyle Korver? To pose another way, if you could trade that pick for Kyle Korver himself at $1-2 million per year over four years would you do it?

Let's say we get the 16th pick, and Warren, Hairston, Hood and McDermott are all available.

Would you really take McDermott?

How about if Marcus Smart falls a little.... Jared Sullunger plus 16th pick for 9th or 10th pick and take Smart

Sullinger is/will be a quality starter in this league.

I wouldn't trade him alone for the 9th/10th pick, never mind our second pick too. No way.

Not a fan of McDermott or Hairston.

Players I'm watching that could be around for the 2nd pick Hood, Young, Robinson lll, Aaron Harrision, and then a few foreign players like Vasilije Micić and Mario Hezonja.

I like Sully, but he has given no indication he can be a quality starter in the nba.  During his hot streak earlier this year he beat up on teams without quality big players. And when he has faced quality big players he hasn't fared so well

His ceiling is David West, but West is in great shape to mask some of his deficiencies. Plus he is on a great team

I would think about trading Sully but straight up for a 10th pick. If we package our 2nd 1st and sully then we would need to be in the 7-8 picking zone.

I like Mcdermott and understand his issues, but he is an elite 3 pt shooter. Considered prob the best in college today.

These guys are valuable pieces to have on a team. You are down 10, put in Mcdermott, set screens for him, get him open and he can get you back in the game quickly. You are tied and the starters need to rest, put in mcdermott and he can help give your team some breathing room

You don't find these kind of players too easily these days.

I want to go on record here as saying that McDermott might be the right pick even as high as six. And should definitely be in the mix in the 5-10 range. After Embiid, Wiggins, Parker Exum and Smart, I am fine with Danny taking McDermott. This kid can flat out score, he's 6' 8" with four years of college. And as others have said, even as an elite shooter only,  will have a place in the league. I prefer him to either Aaron Gordon (offensively very limited) or Julius Randle ( dont see him as dominant at the NBA level given his skill set) or Vonleh (who really needs more time in school). I think he is legitimately in the mix before the tenth pick.
