  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Mcdermott's defense is better than most people think. He is light on his feet and has high iq to make up for lack of elite quickness/athleticism. He will also usually have a hand up, and if you get score over his  6'8 frame, 6'9 wingspan it will take some effort

On offense what i like best about his game is tha the will come around screens with his hands out. He wants the ball and most of the time he gets it, its in the basket. He is very confident in his ability to score

Like have already said, even though he will have a harder time to get free and score in the nba,  he will still run around like a headless chicken and try. It doesn't matter how good of a defender you are, you will eventually tire out trying to cover a guy like Mcdermott

His size is what sold me. He's not like Jimmer whos undersized and unathletic. He does not have elite athleticism, but he has the size and frame fitting for a SF. So all teams needs to figure out is how to work him and his flaws defensively. And offense, I dont think McDermott will be a problem on offense.

I am going to get on my knees and pray tonight that delusional DA doesn't go brain dead and draft this slow footed player. Plenty of guys can come off picks (usually guards) and score in college. Consistently creating your own shot, being good in transition, and playing defense are necessary traits in order to be good in the NBA.

Actually if drafting McSlow is what it takes for delusional to get fired, I can live with it.

If drafting McDermott and having him succeed will stop the name 'delusional' from catching on, Id gladly sign up for that treatment.

Very productive college player but I think he will be a poor pro scorer and maybe a three point specialist if he is lucky.   He can't create a shot that chucking from super far out usually does not translate well in the pros just ask Adam Morrison.  It won't work in the pros without a ton of picks and screens.   I say pass on him.   Too slow, can't D and cannot create his own shot.

Adam morrison ran with a gimp leg. He is slower and softer than mcdrmott

Mcdermott is a better three pt shooter also.

Having to trail a 6'10 PF who is a knockdown shooter drastically changes a defense's schemes. Just ask anyone who has been playing Phoenix this season.

At this point McDermott might be taken closer to our 1st pick than our 2nd...  :'(

He is not real athletic.   Won't help him if he can't get separation to get his shot off.   I don't think he has the one on one moves.   I watched the Big East tourney and this guy is not as good as Chris Mullin was folks.

Mullin is a Hall of Famer who averaged 25+ points per game for five straight seasons in the NBA, though.  It's probably not fair to expect to draft a guy like that with our second pick.  Are people making that comparison, in terms of their projections?

At worst, a 3 point specialist, I wish we had one of those now.

But I think he will do well...a Kyle Korver on steroids...not literally, of course.  ;D

Nope,  Here they compare him to Tracy Murray.

I think that is the most upside one will get out of him.   Would not be bad but he literally needs someone to set up a shot for him.   With a draft as deep I think you have to roll the dice on someone more athletic.

He has to be tough.  Dads are harshest on their own kids when they are coaches.

Here's the thing, McDermott is highly skilled. He would have to be a much worse athlete than he is to not at least be a decent NBA player. Not every NBA player is an elite athlete. This isn't track & field, it's basketball. Just being athletic is useless if you don't have an NBA level skill.

Agree here. Grab him in a heartbeat with our 2nd pick, although he'll be gone around 8th. He's 4 year guy, coaches son, highly intelligent player. This gets lost as everyone just want an elite athlete. This guy knows how to score and will find ways to do it in the NBA. McDermott has to prove himself every game and done that by beating up on the bad teams but also doing well against the few good teams they've played (Villanova).

But what was mullins profile? He was not some athletic freak not defensive whiz.  Mcdermott right now is closer to becoming a mullin or mullin poor man version vs morrison
