I did read somewhere that ainge wants to get significantly better at the trade deadline. he doesnt want to get better by 3 wins, but significantly better.

Meaning he's not going to make a trade that will take us from 5th worst team to 10th worst team.

More likely he makes a trade that will take us from 5th worst team to 3rd worst team.

I agree .......I think this is why he is not going to trade for Asik .............unless he can steal him.........before the end of the season..........trading for more good players will screw up his pick

I would bet DA makes the team worse than better in the short run......that means not adding stars, scorers,  centers that are good.

I totally disagree.  We can trade for Asik and continue to let him "heal" slowly from his "injuries" and it will only have a negative impact on this year's win total.  That is really a VERY EASY fix.

Whatever we do, I'm not the least bit concerned about possibly shooting up the standings. We've got some soft opponents coming up to end the month, but they're all road games. Then look at March. We could seriously go 1-14 in March.

so obviously he's looking for something significant, but whether he finds it is another thing.

as i said above, bass and bradley work for asik.  however, i dont think he wants to include bradley in the deal.

i think he thinks he can get more for bradley, and therefore i see bradley being moved to a team for 2 players, one player going to houston with bass and one coming to the celtics, or bradley for a player and a pick, and the player going to houston with bass, and ainge keeping the pick.

three team trade.

I am pretty sure that Ainge was just saying that moves to signicantly improve the team were open for discussion. In other words, rather than suggesting that immediate improvement is his primary trading goal, he was suggesting that if trades that helped the C's significantly in the short-term are on the table, he'd consider going in that direction and abandon the top-5 pick route.

I don't really have a prediction on what he'll do, but I am very psyched to hear some real rumors and validated trade chatter -- and am disappointed that it's been so quiet thus far.

I guess I enjoy the buzz that generates around real trade talks and am looking forward to that excitement over the next few days.

Someone like Asik is more valuable than the difference between the 5th and 10th pick.

As I stated earlier.  IF we can pick up Asik at the deadline, I seriously doubt that he plays much for us this year, so as to NOT affect our tanking.

this team needs three things and I'm not sure this draft has much depth in those areas…

1st:  An elite scorer thats has deep threat potential (a SG or SF) that leaves Exum, Wiggins, Parker, and possibly G.Harris

2nd:  A rim protecting center:  Embid, maybe Cauly-Stien

3rd:  A back up PG: Smart, the kid from syracuse

I'm not big on Asik….Sanders and Monroe are interesting.

Until we are closer to contention, we need everything. It's much too early in the rebuilding process to worry about positional needs, IMO.

So, you're in favor of making an offer for Kenneth Faried?

If when acquiring asik we also know that asik won't play much this year, then I would trade Bradley and bass maybe a pick for him. He would be a huge expiring asset next year.

I agree. Wether it's trades, free agents, or the draft, it is far too early in the rebuild process for us pass up on talent because of position. We should go for the best talent at the best value regardless of positions.

I was talking about the draft.  But yeah, if we can get a good PF at a reasonable cost I don't see the issue per se. In a year we'd have two young PFs to use as the centerpiece of a trade to acquire a bigger star, allowing us to keep one no matter what.

And who knows, maybe our trading partner would prefer Faried.

Or, Sully could get hurt. Etc.

• Trade talk at All-Star weekend has been "as slow as it's been in a long time," said one executive who has not received a single phone call. A lot of teams have made it known which players they are open to moving, but the problem is finding trade partners. Very few teams are willing to part with premium draft picks or take on future salary, which are the two key drivers for trades.

Ilyasova should be looked at the same way as Faried. Acquire talent/assets that may be undervalued. Figure out what to do with them later.

Detroit seems to rather move Josh Smith than Monroe. No one wants his bloated contract, so I think we could get him on the cheap and Rondo/Josh Smith could be our PP and RayvAllen to attract the next KG (figuratively speaking of course).
