The idea that you have to be a good two way player to be a legitimate starter is a strange one. Ditto that Gortat is a better C than Asik.

Also the C's do a great job of defending the 3 point line, but not so great at defending the paint. I think Asik would add something defensively and on the glass that we're missing. Right now we're "solid" on the defensive glass, but overall we start all average to below average rebounders (Sully is just average for a C on the glass due to his size disadvantage) at every position. Just having one guy who's elite can transform that aspect of the team's game.

I think Asik scoring will see a tick up once Rondo gets back on the floor....

They have until the 20th? Come on I'm sick of this playing out lets just end it already. Rockets aren't getting a better deal than ours unless another team is really that dumb

Somewhat, but in the end he's still a garbage man with stone hands. Finishing off of rebounds and wide open dunks is his game.

They could easily get a similar deal without the same long term money commitment. Not sure if its there in the current rumors but you know there is more going on that we don't hear.

They want a pick, though. Don't think many teams are so readily willing to surrender a first.

Not the ones in the rumor anyway: lottery bound teams who would definitely want to keep their picks.

That's a good point but I feel like the money commitment isn't the Rockets main priority. The Lee deal is long-term but a good piece for a contending team like the Rockets. Bass only has one more year on his contract. Besides the reason the Rockets want to finish this now is for the flexibility to trade any of these guys by the deadline if necessary. There are teams that would take Bass.

Getting a scorer like Lee, a fitting pf in Bass and a first round pick is fair compensation for a guy coming off a good year and currently getting no playing time (though its tough to get playing time when you play with Howard). The fact that the Rockets thought they would get Millsap is laughable, it's not happening. Another team could have an offer but C's make the most sense.

I don't particularly want Asik on the Celtics from a perspective of having a fan's commitment to watching the games.

Playing faux GM, though, I think that if DA can do the deal without including our 2014 1st--my gut feeling is that we're going to be more allergic to scoring than the worst offensive droughts we saw with the modern Big three--he has to do it.

It will be ugly.

We will score maybe 25 points a game, on a good night.

We should have a pretty good draft pick, right?

The Rockets have repeatedly stressed through the media they don't want long term money because they want flexibility to adjust around Howard/Harden/Parsons (assuming they retain Parsons)

I value Thib's opinion extremely highly.
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-12-24/sports/ct-spt-1225-bulls-chicago--20121225_1_omer-asik-coach-tom-thibodeau-screen-and-roll-situations

Regarding his offense:

"He's a team guy. I thought he did a lot here for us offensively that wasn't recognized. His teammates recognized how valuable he was and certainly the coaches. He's a great screener. He's a great offensive rebounder. He's a great passer. He finishes strong around the basket. He's making his free throws more now. He's a terrific player."

Regarding him being slow-footed (brought up in the subject of one of the recent topics):

"Beyond Asik's increased numbers, he possesses the unique agility to switch onto smaller players in screen-and-roll situations."

And on him quitting on a team Carmelo-style:
http://www.csnchicago.com/bulls/omer-asiks-former-teammates-support-ex-bull-trading-block?p=ya5nbcs&ocid=yahoo

My point is - he is a very good center. We have none of those. We are giving up one of our 4 PFs, one of our 4 SGs and one of our 9 picks. It is a win-win situation, if it happens.

A separate discussion could be opened if we are better on offence with him. In addition to his scoring, one should also take into account 2nd chance points off of ORs and good screens.

"We do so many defensive drills in practice, I come home and I'm putting the press on my woman, denying her the ball.
Y'all are laughing, but it's sad. I go home and deny the wing."

Danny Ainge was supposed to be on 98.5 at 9am this morning. He was a no show for the interview and when the Celtics are in "radio silence mode" according to the show. Thats a sign something is up.

I don't know that the scoring will be terrible, especially with Rondo back. Asik's not a great offensive player but he scores efficiently and he gets more offensive rebounds than Bass.

The C's are clearly trying to make something happen. Whether it does or not is just a waiting game till Asik is moved.

After that things should calm down till the actual trade deadline.

Fine, I'll go up to 65 points a game, but that's my final offer.

And I'm not really focused on Rondo's return--2nd week of January is my bet--I'm more focused on the without-Rondo times if the trade does go down today or tomorrow.
