I think Green heading out in an Asik del is very likely. I believe Danny gave Green that 4 year $36 million contract figuring that when Pierce was gone Green would develop into the superstar that they saw last spring.
Alas, this year has proven that a completely healthy Green is not that superstar but what he has always been which is a decent third cog who can shine at times disappear completely at times and will be what he always has been which is a 17 PP36 player that can't rebound or pass well and who isn't aggressive enough for most team's tastes.
So why not move on rather than have to pay him for this year and two more. Asik's contract expires next year. If he is the defensive anchor they think he can be then they can resign him and if not, they can renounce his rights and save the $9 million they would have had on the books for Green in 2015-16.
My dream scenario would be Philly wanting Asik and in a three team deal the Celtics nab Nerlens Noel while Green goes to Houston. Yeah baby....Nerlens in Boston!!!!!
Meh, I don't see Green as a superstar obviously, but rather I think he is paid very fair value for what he does bring. If Ainge thought he'd be a superstar, he would of paid him significantly more. I also see no need to get out from under his contract as you suggest unless Ainge has an immidiet plan for Greens salary slot.
If Asik doesn't pan out like you said and Boston lets him walk, then you just lost Green for scraps. You could say try and trade Asik at that point, but if he doesn't work out for us I'm pretty sure the league will notice and his value will be poor. Especially considering he will be due a big pay day.
Agree though, if PHI wanted to send Noel to his hometown Boston, then I would entirely change my stance lol but I see that as unlikely at best.
In the end, I'm happy I have full faith in Ainge. I will be unhappy if Green is gone but I'll trust Ainge has made the right decision.
