I'd like him to stay but---Ainge and Stevens have to sit down with Rondo, to see if they are all on the same page---if not,Rondo goes....

Hopefully for Drummond or Monroe + Stuckey/Pick.
C's will need a Center to build with---Point Guards are a dime a dozen these days.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

No, no and NO!
Rebuild around something solid.
You don't rebuild with nothing, it will get ages (IF you are lucky at draft).
I don't get this fascination of tanking. For all you know maybe you get wiggins and he will be the next oden and you are ruin for a decade.
Enough with tank and trade RR. Please, it's irritating now.

It always depends on what comes back, but I think Rondo is as good a guy to build around as Pierce was when he was 27 back in 2005.

Could not agree less.

Pierce was an all-around threat. He was an elite scorer already, and had shown flashes of great defense along with excellent rebounding and passing for a SF.

You could agree less. For instance, had I said he was as good a guy to build around as Antoine Walker.

A little more seriously, I can't really recall too much talk about Pierce as a great defender back in 2005 -- though I have heard that about Rondo.  Pierce had showed he was an elite scorer -- and was a star.  Rondo has shown he is an elite passer, elite rebounder (as a 1), is a repeat all-star, and is thought by some (not me actually) as an elite defender at his position.   He has been a triple-double machine in the playoffs and has been viewed in a few playoff series as the best player on the court.   You may disagree, but your opening line is a little off. It's not an absurd notion that Rondo is as good a guy to build around as Pierce.

I'd like to argue against the point that Rondo is actually an elite passer. I think he is a solid passer, however I think many of his assists came not from his being so elite making some brilliant pass, rather giving the ball to PP and KG. If any of us could throw the ball to those two we'd average 8+ assists per game. Both knock down perimeter jumpers. Bass and a few others give him one or two assists a game doing the same for that matter. He isn't consistently coming up with great "thread the needle passes". He is often just swinging the ball.

Before everyone jumps on board, I am not saying the guy isn't a good passer. Just that he isn't in my definition "elite". Steve Nash is elite. John Stockton was elite. Magic was elite. Rondo is just solid. The only thing I think he is elite at is his rebounding. For a point guard there are few that are at his level.

As far as the question goes. Yes please. Bad fit with a rebuilding team and a young coach. Get what you can for him so it doesn't become a problem.

I'd love to see you average 8 assists in the NBA.  ::)

Of all the Rondo hating I've seen, this one has to be one of the worse posts I've seen. Rondo is only a solid, not elite passer? There's no end of what I could write to disprove that statement, but considering you said that anybody could average 8+ assists playing with PP and KG, I think that speaks for itself how little credibility you have.

no. nope. no way Jose.

Rondo's the main asset we have and the type of player we'd want to acquire while rebuilding.

I don't want Rondo traded but I wouldn't hesitate including him in a trade, if that makes sense. And the reason for that is because Rondo is one of the few players on the team that can actually get something of value back, whether it's a high lottery pick or a disgruntled but very young player with all star potential (preferably a big).

Does a bear like honey?

Of course, trade him for a 1st round draft pick.

If the Celtics keep Rondo, its a sure sign they are tanking.  He would be great at making terrible decisions to help us lose games.

Just because he is our best asset doesn't mean we are required to keep him. We didn't get back fair value for Pierce/KG either. We took two steps back to make a giant leap forward (eventually).

CP3 has never been to a finals. Nash hasn't either. Kidd never led his team to a championship. Neither has Payton nor Stockton nor Kevin Johnson.

Unless you are talking about 6'10" Magic Johnson, you don't build around a PG.

Contrary to what some believe on here, Rondo was always a complimentary piece throughout our championship window.

The question in the topic was "Do Celtics fans want Rondo traded?" .  I stand by my answer.  He's the type of player we want to have.

As for would I trade him if a great deal came along, sure, for the right deal.  what we got for PP and KG is irrelevant and a poor comparison as well.  They were 2 players well past their prime who we'd keep out of sentiment.  Rondo is an all-star, top PG coming into his prime.

Throw in the fact there's a helluva a lot of players in ALL positions that haven't won a title either.  Don't throw out PGs as the only type of player that can't win a title.  I don't see a ring on DH's fingers even though he's the top Center in the game.  How many rings does Durant have?  I can throw out even more examples than you can of great non-PGs that never won a title.
