I know exactly what is on Danny's mind, and I don't like it.

I will be hoping we win as many games as possible, and don't care what anyone else thinks.  The object of competition is to win.

As for this coaching hire, I'll reserve my ultimate judgement until I see the results.  I'm skeptical, though.

What a shock this is, but when I heard it, I was pumped. This guy has a basketball mind, and isn't just a great motivator like Rivers. The way he gets his guys motivated is by being able to relate to young players and those young players buy into his systems because of it.

Ainge is way ahead of the curve on this one, and he hit a homerun. Doc Rivers left because he couldnt teach and coach younger players and Ainge found the BEST guy for the situation of the team.

Rondo to Detroit with Josh Smith within days by the way.

Love this hire! Good for this team. He can fail now, it's not a problem this year, we need to rebuild anyway. It's really worth giving it a try! I'm IN! And I'm hopefull he will turn into a great coach.

Thoughts on the signing
1. Love the signing
2. With a six year contract I expect him to be here a while(Doc got a long enough leash to lose 20 games in a row and keep his job, and Doc was getting paid much more than Stevens)
3. Butler ran the type of aggressive up tempo system that perfectly fits Green, Bradley and Rondo
4. I don't agree with the line of thinking that Rondo will automatically demand a trade. Steven's system is perfect for Rondo/Does Rondo really want to get labeled as even more a malcontent than he already is? Will that help his push for a max contract extension (that I'm sure he feels he deserves) next year?
5. Stevens was one of the first/only college coaches to hire an analytics guy. Boston is one of the leading teams in the league in analytics. Allows more of a top down organizational philosophy than previously with Doc and the veterans.
6. Butler was 11th in the country in rebounding margin last year, does this mean we will finally be a team that crashes the boards hard?
7. Expectations are low for the Celtics, if he loses a lot this year, it was expected. However if he wins he will immediately be thought of as a great coach. It's a no lose situation.

I don't think it matters if Rondo is on board.  I don't think he's part of the plan.

I think rajon is gone as well just a matter of time. I think we keep green and of course the very young like AB, sully, Olynyk etc.

He's described as a defense-oriented coach whose offense requires precise execution and who is heavy into analytics.  That sounds like my kind of coach.

This makes me hopeful that there is some desire to maintain the team's defensive identity and to avoid turning into a run and gun Lob City East offense.  It sounds like it is a sign that a stretch four is a key component to the Celtics future, which is something I advocate.

I'm glad it's not a potential disaster like Doug Collins or George Karl.

League source says Stevens getting six-year contract with Celtics.

And there's the other shoe.  With that long a contract, there's got to be some understanding that this is going to take time.

Guesses:

Rondo - Gone
Humphries - Gone
Bass - Gone
Lee - Gone

I could be wrong on all of it, but it fits what I'm seeing.

We can still tank and keep Rondo

Rondo= out til January

Humpheries= No sense in trading him , we want his salary to come off the books while we rebuild, not add more long term salary , which is what you would get because the other team wants humpheries expiring

Bass + Lee= Yes try to move them for expirings and picks , even 2nd round picks .

I don't think Ainge is going to want Rondo's attitude poisoning the team moving forward.

I think Humprhies is a good enough player that they'll be able to get something back for him, and the team will need a contract or two moving forward because of cap reasons.

I'm with you on Bass and Lee.  I don't really see either as an integral part of a championship contending team 3 years down the road, so they might as well move them now and get what they can.

everyone wants to win the larry O'brien trophy every year problem is we were not winning it with the team we had nor this team. it was time for a rebuild. here it is.

First off I would like to apologize to Danny Ainge for calling him a coward. Hiring Brad Stevens took GUTS. And I admit I was very wrong.

With that, I have never been so excited. Of course Stevens still has to prove himself. College and pros are very different. Im just optimistic because of the track record.

He lead 6 different not so talented Butler teams and a couple of them went deep, heck, one was a shot away from the national title. He can maximize the talents of his players, he's very intelligeny and coaches say he's very detail oriented.

I think Stat's guy is a great label, it means he's smart and knows what the best way to score is. Coaches that understand statistic best know how to use their players in the most effective way.

I think we'll only be in the lottery for one year. Danny will find a way to shed Bass, Lee and maybe Wallace giving us cap space to work with to either make a big trade or add a good free agent (Larry Sanders would be my choice)

Not an integral part, but they wouldn't be useless in that context, so I don't think you have a fire sale and get whatever you can get, but instead wait for a certain level of value.  If the Celtics have the quick rebuild of getting a potential star in the 2014 draft and signing or trading for a big salary veteran who we didn't think would be available, we might be glad that Bass and/or Lee is still around.

To me this signals that the emphasis will be on young players and teaching. Doc Rivers was all about managing players and the game. He did it very well but teaching young players is something else as you have to show them "why" you want them to do something. Stats, film and detailed interaction is the way to go when you are trying to impact a younger audience. The question with all young coaches and players is that by the time you get good everyone gets tired of hearing the message. I hope the Celtics get really good before that happens as rebuilding takes a while with young players.

Nobody mention this name in this topic. Nobody even mention this name…now looks that all you guys loved that anonymous guy. Please do not be hypocrite. Who would I have hired? Van Gundy, Hollins, Larry Brown, D. Collins etc. some kind experienced coach very useful for this situation
