I'm not sure that would have any bearing on his job as a pro coach. He took the correct stance as a college coach, but it's a different situation in the pros. First of all, you don't recruit 19 year old players, you are lucky enough to draft them.

Pitino as bad as a coach he was for us, also had a rebuilding team to work with.

Main problem with Pitino, aside from his ego, is that he more than a coach, and it's really those aspects aside from coaching that really killed any chance of success with the Celtics as the terrible job he did in those positions (like general manager) trickled down into his coaching ability and on how players responded to him too.

So in all, Stevens' situation doesn't compare at all to the Pitino era. You might forget, Pitino was quite successful Knicks head coach before his crap job with the Celtics.

1. I know absolutely nothing about Brad Stevens except what I have read in the last 24 hours. I follow and watch a lot of college ball but I usually for the players and ignore the coaches. So the one definitive thing I can say about Stevens is he coached the team that blew up my brackets two years in a row.

2. The assumption that Stevens isn't going to get along with Rondo is presumptuous. They could meet and hit it off personally straight from the start. This could be the start of a long and great relationship between Rondo and Stevens. I'm not saying that will happen but it is every bit as possible as Rondo and Stevens not getting along.

3. I like the focus he has on defense. That has been the Celtics identity since 2007. I don't expect to see Boston 2007-08 defense right away, but I like the idea of that identity continuing.

4. I understand the six year contract. He's young, might have a family and kids(do not know for sure) and had stability in his job. He wanted stability in a new job. The contract makes sense and is probably as much as a large NCAA program would have given him if he was be recruited to be hired by that type of college program.

5. I am not going to say I love or hate him as a coach right now because I just don't have an opinion either way. We will see. And remember, he may not have great success right off the bat so we might need a few years just to get a proper handle on this guy. Hopefully what happened to Doc won't happen to Stevens where some fans hated him and blamed him for losing simply because Danny gave him young talent.

6. Remember something, the only part of coaching we see as fans are the games, which in many ways, is the smallest and least important part of the job. I say we are going to need to give Stevens some time to see how he develops a system, a working environment, a working relationship with his players, and how that translates to success on the court. This may take years to come to a truly informed decision about the guy, so I hope people are patient and don't pre-opinionize him before we really know what he is all about.

I'm undecided. But the difference between him and guys such as Montgomery, Pitino etc... is that he knows that he is not the star. Stevens coaches on pure fundamentals and gets people to buy into a blue collared system. He brings a good concept of team basketball which none of the guys from the bigger colleges did. He's also willing to learn. On the surface I love the hire as opposed to some of the names being thrown around here.

Stevens led a no name butler crew to oustanding season records and two final four tournaments in the past 4 years. We are talking about no names of no names where the only one hanging on for his nba career life is shelvin mack.

He is all about analytics, quarter to quarter adj(unlike rivers), defense and teamplay first mentality. From what i read he has laser vision and able to find holes.

Not sure about his ability to develop players. Example at worse due to his analytic skills, i can see him ask players to take certain shots on the floor and diet from taking certain other shots. Example ab, cut shooting threes

I love the signing and even though he will likelh struggle year 1, by next year we get back to into the playoffs
