Let´s wait and see. "Stat guy" is not a very flattering label.

TP, Yoki, for calling it
I think Stat's guy is a great label, it means he's smart and knows what the best way to score is. Coaches that understand statistic best know how to use their players in the most effective way.

And how do you come to that conclusion? Because Popovich and Jackson are such big stat guys? Or because you are a big stat guy?
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Nobody mention this name in this topic. Nobody even mention this name…now looks that all you guys loved that anonymous guy. Please do not be hypocrite. Who would I have hired? Van Gundy, Hollins, Larry Brown, D. Collins etc. some kind experienced coach very useful for this situation

Brad Stevens getting a 6 year contract? Interesting... I also heard a twitter rumor saying DA has been scouting Stevens for a while now. But I didn't think it was true, I remember hearing it around the deadline last year. When Doc has speculations as to whether or not he'd coach this year.

Whomever,  it will be might be a temporary fix.  Iw ish we could get Brad Stevens from Butler.

On bottom on page 1.

I am happy, I think Stevens won with less talent at Butler.  Granted he has some good players but not as good as some other teams and he still won and mixed it with the big dogs.

Amazingly smart hire by the Celtics... Brad Stevens should be a great coach in the NBA... Memphis & Phoenix both had him a top their lists.

Interesting to hear Memphis let Lionel Hollins go and was considering Stevens as his replacement.

Love this hire.  It's a gamble, but a very smart one.  Stevens isn't your conventional "great college coach" - rather than doing it by recruiting superior athletes like a Calipari or a Pitino, he did it by out-coaching the other sideline.  That's the kind of guy you take a chance on, in my opinion.

Great move that fits a rebuilding team very well.

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
He's described as a defense-oriented coach whose offense requires precise execution and who is heavy into analytics.  That sounds like my kind of coach.

Mine too.  This makes me very excited.  It's a gamble, but a gamble with great upside and a built-in on-the-job training period.

Stevens seems like a high-precision, low-ego type of guy.  Provided we bring the right young players under him, he should be able to get us to play disciplined, smart ball.  That said, the whole thing'll probably be a horrible mess this year, but that seems like the plan.

He did it not by recruiting superior athletes but by COACHING. That is why he will succeed, and that is why the hire is a good one. We hired a COACH. How refreshing.

I know almost nothing about him.  I'm concerned at the total lack of NBA experience.
