I'm taking this deal. The hawks won't want to swap picks next year as the nets will have a low pick and the hawks will lose Smith. that means we get 2 2013 picks, one low because we're obviously tanking. We shed Humphries next year (probably trade him at the deadline), and we have basically traded Garnett's contract for Wallace's and 3 firsts (and maybe Brooks). That is a total steal. Pierce and Humphries cancel because they are both expiring.

What's more we get bad right at the right time, kind of like the Colts did to get Luck. This move would be genius even if it doesn't net Wiggins or Parker but on the off chance that it does Ainge looks like a saint.

I might be the only one who thinks this and I could potentially be argued with about this, but I will still say it:

I am willing to have 1 or 2 bad years if that allows us to send KG and Pierce (together please) to a team where they have a very good chance of winning a championship. For all they have given us, Pierce's 15 years and KG's 5 years, I strongly believe that if we are trading them away, then they should be given a very good chance to contend, even if that means we have to suck for 1-2 years and perhaps more.

We sucked for 22 years for basically nothing.

This time, we won't suck for awful management or bad luck. We would suck because there is a valid reason.

You can't just say its a business and add absolutely no emotions in this. KG and Pierce came out everyday and gave their all, whether we led by 20 points or trailed by 20 points.

They deserve good.

Lastly, for those that have absolutely no values for KG and Pierce and emotions and don't care even a bit about it, you should know that sucking would eventually land us a decent pick to help us get back up.

In conclusion, I don't care what anyone says. They gave their all in every game they played. The very least we can do is give them a realistic and good opportunity to contend elsewhere. If the price for that is that we would be awful for a year or two, please go ahead and be awful. I'm all for it.

Not only on-court, but these two have done so much for this organization and this city off-court too.

KG's invaluable teachings to younger players (Rondo, Perkins, Glenn Davis, Stiemsma, Bass, Melo, Tony Allen etc.) and Pierce's decision to stick with the team through thick and thin instead of just leaving when the team sucked the way LeBron and others have.

If in your eyes, they don't even deserve this much, then I am saddened at the quality of the so-called "best fanbase in sports" that we claim to have. It saddens me that we have no value for what players give to us. It saddens me that we have absolutely no emotions.

I hope everyone takes my post positively.

I find it morally incorrect to trade Pierce and KG (if we are determined to trade them) to any non-contender, especially after what they have done for us every second of every game for so long.

If they take on Terry/Lee and Bass then I would have no problem getting Wallace.  Three 1st round picks? Take that everyday for 2 guys that are retiring next year anyway.  We get a nice project player as well, Humphries is expiring, and if we really don't want Wallace we can always move him in another deal.

Yea I am starting to agree with this

PLUS

The Nets have a two year window, those picks could be real good in 2015/16 and 17/18 , if that's what we get back.

I'm wondering if Danny is looking at the framework we're talking about, but contingent on finding a team to flip Wallace to.  If so, can't see him finding an arrangement that works, but I don't mind looking into it.

If he honestly is considering taking on Wallace, the deal had better be a lot more favorable to us than what we're seeing so far.

But if we're likely going to be laying low for a few years as far as being attractive to FA's, how does Wallace's contract really hurt? We gotta pay somebody while we're in the gutter....

I am OK with this. I love PP and KG both, but flipping them to a contender for picks and garbage means (almost) everyone wins. Ainge gets his shorter winter, PP/KG get a chance for another ring, and fans get to see what the Rondo/Bradley/Green/Sully core can do while we wait for our picks to turn into good players.

I don't like the Wallace contract, but we do have the stretch (right?), and he's an expiring in two years anyway.

Sending KG and Pierce to the Nets makes them a legit contender, I think.

Right? Nets were a top 6 defensive team last season, and they would only be getting better in that department, plus Frank would be on board as well.

Saw this posted on realgm

Quote
A lot of people don't know about Toko Shengelia but he's a really nice young prospect for the Celtics if they get him. He played 10 games in the D-League this year, and had Lebron esque stats with 24 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 4 APG, 2 SPG, and 1 BPG, while shooting 52.7% from the field. He has a great work ethic and attitude, plays hard and has some very good upside. As a Nets fan, if there's one piece I'd be reluctant to give up, it would be him because he's a good young prospect (only 21) on a rookie minimum deal.

From WoJo:

Celtics, Nets deal has reached ownership level, league source tells Y! Jason Terry joins Pierce and Garnett in package, source says.

They were a top 10 offensive team, they were middle of the back defensively.

Sounds serious... getting back bogans and Reggie Evans to make salaries work.  Awful return player-wise, but the draft picks will be very helpful chips down the line.

Fantastic full-blown tank-mode trade.  I could see Rondo traded next... or they just let him take his sweet time returning from ACL surgery so we completely bottom out this year.  Ainge is making the right move here.  You can't remove Pierce, add Smith and contend.  That's a bandaid move.  This is how you properly build from the ground up.
