lol how am I wrong, everything I said is true. Who cares if rivers leaves? apparently Ainge and the celtics FO cares. the clippers have ALL of the leverage because they don't need this deal done as much as boston does.

Actually you are wrong on some things. Let me pick it apart:

Quote
If they do happen to walk away, they aren't gonna get screwed over, and Ainge isn't gonna "stick it to them" by pulling out of this deal. They're still going to be in great shape.

The Clippers aren't in great shape. They were a 1st round out last year. They have a couple of (assumed) late 1st rounder picks and one expiring contract. If they do sign CP3 to a max deal they will be over the cap so their financial flexibility isn't great.  They are in a very volatile stage where the fate of the next 5 years of their franchise is up in the air while Paul decides if he wants to bail to Atlanta/Dallas/Houston with D12. Great isn't the word I'd use. Interesting maybe.

Quote
The Clippers have all of the leverage here
That is just a silly statement. The Celtics have assets the Clippers want. Making this trade puts LAC in the conversation for top team in the West. Need I restate the 1st round out from last year? Boston on the other hand either rebuilds...or as reports suggest, rebuild. We're assuming base on reports that either KG/Doc go or they retire/quit. While it would be nice to have some assets for them I'm not sure how much I think of DJ and a late round 1st next year. The leverage isn't as one sided as you make it out to be.

Quote
cp3 staying really has nothing to do with the clipps getting Doc or not
I don't know if you're right or wrong on this one but I suspect you don't know what you're talking about. Do you know CP3? This statement leads me to believe you're just instigating.

I'm not one to forecast the future and proclaim it as gospel and I dislike when other people do it as well.

We're angry because our team is falling apart and we're fans. We're also angry because we feel like we might get fleeced and have to watch a bad team for a while as a result. Hope I cleared that up for you.

Though I really dislike Broussard and his "sources" I feel at this point, there has been too much discussion, time, and effort put into this deal for nothing to come out of it. It's hard ball on both sides, someone's budging eventually... just hoping it's not Danny

I don't understand what you guys are angry about. The Clippers have all of the leverage here, why shouldn't they use it to full extent? if they DIDN'T use their leverage, then they'd be bad management. cp3 staying really has nothing to do with the clipps getting Doc or not, idk why you guys are assuming this. He'd be just as happy with shaw, scott, or hollins. And the clippers don't want to take on Lee's contract because they want to trade bledsoe to orlando for Afflalo (who has a BIGGER contract than lee, so enough of that "they're being cheap" BS). Yes, the clippers are "threatening" to walk away. If they do happen to walk away, they aren't gonna get screwed over, and Ainge isn't gonna "stick it to them" by pulling out of this deal. They're still going to be in great shape. I think the celtics, however, are at a point of no return. They need to make this trade or else doc goes into broadcasting, and without him coaching pierce and KG retire this off season.

you're just wrong.  ainge doesn't have to do anything.  who cares if rivers leaves.  get another coach. kg either plays or retires a celtic.  jordon and a crappy first rounder are pointless.  the clips have no leverage.  they are the ones that want something to win next year.

lol how am I wrong, everything I said is true. Who cares if rivers leaves? apparently Ainge and the celtics FO cares. the clippers have ALL of the leverage because they don't need this deal done as much as boston does.

Celtics have the pieces that LAC wants under contract. So that's the leverage. We have the pieces they want; they are simply one path to possibly get an extra asset to speed up the rebuilding process. The Clippers are setting the tone for the next several years to try to keep Chris Paul and re-sign Blake.

And I think of it this way: If I'm LAC and I upgrade from VDN to Doc and Jordan to KG and get to keep Bledsoe only giving up a crappy late first, I'm ecstatic. Therefore it's a bad deal for the C's and they should walk away and make those under contract work for them. They need Bledsoe or at least a future lottery-guaranteed ("reverse protected") pick coming back. They don't have to do anything.

Or think about it like this. If you're the clippers and you walk away from this deal, you keep your pick and DJ. DJ's heading to the US camp this summer, so he should develop. Now you bring in somebody like hollins, and he further helps DJ develop into a legit big man. you then trade bledsoe and butler for the wing player that you need, and I forgot to mention that they can re-sign matt barnes too. The clippers don't need this deal and much as boston does. heck, the clippers don't even know if KG can hold up for most of this up coming season.

and you forgot to mention that they lose Chris Paul, who already said that if they get KG and Doc he stays

funny thing is, chris paul was staying before these rumors came out. And he never said that he's staying because of doc and KG. Somebody who wrote an article PRESUMED that if this trade were to happen, cp3 would have a better chance at resigning. He's resigning anyways.

Nope, clippers were a first round exit last season because of no system. That's where the new head coach comes in. He also helps DJ develop, because he was the weakest link in that chain last season.

Just about EVERY SINGLE source from the clippers has hinted that cp3 IS staying. Paul's hinted it. He basically said that if he could, he'd haev signed that new deal a while ago.

The clippers have odom's 8 mil off the books this year, and carons next. They have a nice trading piece in bledsoe. Blake is signed to a 5 year extension, and cp3 soon to follow. With a new coach and better developed dj and blake, they're in pretty darn good shape.

okay and let me rephrase something that I said earlier "why are you angry at the clippers for playing their cards right?" They have nothing to lose here, as they get to keep their assets and hire a good coach if this thing doesn't happen. You guys should be mad at ainge for quickly saying bledsoe isn't required in the trade. Just by him saying that, it appears the celtics ARE the more desperate team.

How anyone can think the LAC have leverage is beyond me. They haven't had "leverage" in their entire franchise's history.

Can confirm after some calls that Doc/KG/Clips still very much alive. Appears to be in a holding pattern. Hope resolution comes soon.

Boston went the same distance as the Clippers while missing two starters in their 20's.  Clippers also run the risk of losing CP3 for nothing.  What exactly is the leverage the Clippers have in this scenario?

Aren't those same "sources" also saying that cp3 wants to team up with Howard? Last time I checked, the clippers don't have the cap space for both.

No clue on Doc's timeline. PP is separate deal. I say Jordan and picks will be the deal. #celticstalk

you make some good points about the clips assets, their situation isn't bad.  i'm only trying to figure out why it is that boston is supposedly desperate to trade for jordon and a late pick?  they don't have to.  and they won't unless clips include bledsoe or take back significant salary.

OK I just had this scary thought.  What if KG has decided to retire and the Celtics are only trading him as a way for the Clippers to dump Jordan's contract for picks.  That would explain why Doc would consider coaching elsewhere.  If KG is retiring, Danny has no better option than to move or buyout Pierce.  Without KG and Pierce, Doc would find the Clippers job more appealing.

Simple.

Because you really do have the leverage, which makes this deal mainly about saving face now.

If DeAndre Jordan and a bad pick are all Danny is getting back for dealing assets of Doc`s and KG´s calibre, who the people of Boston love,  they will run him out of town. Might as well quit his job if he accepts a sub-par deal.

Ainge has nothing to lose here. Whether he takes a bad deal or no deal at all, it will have the same consequences for him.
Give him something he can sell to the fans, something they could get excited about and talk themselves into, and you might get what you want.

And you do want them, right?
