Josh Smith / 2012 to 2013 / 9th yr
17.4 pts
8.6 rebs
4.3 assts
2.0 blks
1.2 stls

Antoine Walker's 9th season at the trade deadline that year:

20.4 points
9.4 rebounds
3.7 assists
0.6 blocks
1.2 steals

Looks very similar to Josh Smith's stats at the same point in their careers.

Is that who we should spend big bucks on to build around?

i never said that...never...ever...never...ever...i never advocated trading for josh smith...never ...ever...never...ever...although i would consider it...i will repeat it once again...for the umpteenth time...Ferry will easily do better than Dahntey Jones/6 teams in 10 yrs, Brandan Wright/3 teams in 6 yrs and Jae Crowder/34th Selection in 2012 NBA Draft......guaranteed...please do your self a favor and re-read the whole post...it is actually very irritating to be mis-quoted..because...that means one did not take the time to read what is written...why...i have no clue...it is beyond me...

I'm glad you don't advocate for the celtics trading for Smith, but why do you value him so highly? Ferry lost all leverage when he failed to trade him last year. He can't demand anything in return at this point. There is no reason to think he can do better than what was offered.

btw, Jae Crowder is a very good young player. Brendan Wright is a sold young big man who unfortunately looks like Mark Blount. Jones is there for cap relief.

everyone thought the Magic lost their leverage...

Orlando gets Denver guard Arron Afflalo, Denver forward Al Harrington, Philadelphia small forward Moe Harkless, Philadelphia center Nikola Vucevic, Lakers forward Josh McRoberts, Lakers small forward Christian Eyenga, three future first-round picks (a lottery-protected from the Sixers in 2015, the lower of Denver's two first-rounders in 2014 and the Lakers' 2017 first-rounder) and two second-round picks (from Denver in 2013 and a conditional second-rounder from the Lakers in 2015);

they did pretty good in my book...

was DH more highly valued than Josh Smith at the time...yes...but...now...i think it's a dead heat between the two...

once again...Ferry will easily do better than Dahntey Jones/6 teams in 10 yrs, Brandan Wright/3 teams in 6 yrs and Jae Crowder/34th Selection in 2012 NBA Draft...guaranteed...

ferry lost no leverage...funny thing...he may have more leverage...they might even re-sign him...

If you think It's a dead heat between Dwight Howard and Josh Smith, then I have nothing else to say, you have already proven my point.

Isn't Smith a free agent? How is he going to bring great value in a trade?

exactly

it's called an extra $15,000,000 to Josh Smith...that's it...exactly

I still don't see how you expect him to get back good value for a free agent. He might lose him for nothing, if he trades him he'll likely have to take back a lot of salary.

jae crowder is the best player in this proposed deal...which tells you a lot...rookie...2nd rd pick...34th player drafted...

can you imagine if we tried to trade for a max player or near max player with a rookie who was a 2nd rd pick headlining the deal...say ryan gomes, leom powe, baby davis...even c's fans would have laughed at that...

want a good comparison...

The Celtics are giving Courtney Lee a fully guaranteed four-year contract to be worth $21.5 million -- and trading away JaJuan Johnson, E'Twaun Moore, Sean Williams and a second-round pick to Houston. They also will ship Sasha Pavlovic, two second-round picks and cash considerations to Portland.

etwaun moore was the best player we sent out...a nice young player...

we got lee in return...whom i think is great for us...

that's the level of player and $ you are talking about when a rookie who was a 2nd rd pick is headlining a deal...

not for a max player or near max player...

ferry will prob need a 3rd team like this deal but he will certainly do better than this proposed deal...

here's the best way to look at it...the best 2 comps on the c's are rondo and green...would you take jones, wright and crowder for rondo or green?  NO WAY...There would be a mutiny!

I think there is a distinct minority on this board who would be outraged if they found out that Ainge turned down a deal of Rondo for Crowder and a useful big like Wright, especially if they thought it would have meant booting Bass out of the starting lineup.

Dallas Mavs

OJ Mayo / 35.7 minutes / Guard
Dirk / 30.8 minutes / Forward / 34 yrs old
Darren Collison / 30.6 minutes / Guard
Shawn Marion / 29.9 minutes / Forward / 34 yrs old
Vince Carter / 25.4 minutes / Guard-Forward / 36 yrs old
Chris Kaman / 22.9 minutes / Center /
Elton Brand / 22.2 minutes / Forward / 34 yrs old
Jae Crowder / 17.0 minutes / Forward
Brandan Wright / 15.0 minutes / Center - Forward
Dahntey Jones / 12.7 minutes / Forward

that's your 8th 9th and 10th rotation players playing behind 4 guys that are all 34 or older on a team that is 11th in the West with a 28 - 33 record

We will see in a few months when Josh Smith signs his next contract. I think you will be pretty disappointed at what the hawks get in return, if anything, and what Smith gets for a contract.

Amazing how you ignore the most important factor, that Rondo is not only signed to a long term deal, but a very team friendly long term deal at that.

If Smith was signed to the same deal as Rondo, then you would be able to get great value in a deal for him. Instead, he's, well, he's an unrestricted free agent who has stated he wants a max deal but in 9 seasons has never made the all-star team.

why would i be disappointed...i'm not his agent...lol...i wish him the best...in the meantime...i'm rooting for the c's...not the hawks or whatever team he gets traded to...
