danny should get his head checked if he gives Green this type of money.

Green should get the same Bass gets and not one penny more

you give him 10 then you are stating he is the same plane as rondo, kg, pp?

He won't even start

Way too much for someone that hasn't shown much.

Is 4 years at $40 million the same size deal as what Gerald Wallace got?

I like Jeff Green and hope we sign him but for the same money I'd rather have Wallace any day of the week.

I'd probably agree, but short of a sign-and-trade for Wallace (likely with Green going to Brooklyn), we wouldn't have been *able* to do that (or pursue Hibbert).  The whole mechanics of free agency help cause some of these distortions; we needed a decent SF, and the only option we really had, other than vet minimum players, was re-signing Green (once the decision was made to sign JET with the MLE).  Green was in a pretty strong bargaining position, because Danny didn't really have the option of saying "Love you Jeff, but you know...  we're going to sign Gerald Wallace instead!"  It was basically Green...  or maybe Rashard Lewis as Plan B.

As long as it doesn't keep them from signing other players, I don't care.  It's like Scal's contract; he was overpaid, but it never kept the team from making any other moves.  We made the decision that we weren't seeking cap space the moment KG agreed to return.

The best part about rumors and blogs is seeing people go ballistic over unsubstantiated information.

Until I see Ainge agreed to pay Jeff Green 10 million per year for four years I wont believe it.

I like Green.  I want him back.  I believe he can flourish playing with this team, these guys(especially Rondo) and for Doc Rovers.  I don't believe he will be getting that kind of deal at this point in his career after what he has been through.

IMO he will probably get closer to 8 million per.

Apparantly Ilyasova wants 10M/year, and could maybe be had for 8M/year (he wants to get out of Milwaukee so bad, that he will leave for a matching offer).

I believe that Ilyasova could be the steal of the free agency, but I have a hard time seeing Green being worth as much or even more.

We can't offer Ilyasova 8 mil though. Green is what's available.

Why are you guys focusing so much on what a player's worth, rather than on what value he has on our team vs. the alternative?

And most, if not all the suggested alternatives I've seen are pretty much an impossibility for the Celtics.

i think the bigger concern for boston should be what move do they make if ray allen leaves. jeff green is probably a done deal...

now what do you do after ray? do you sign a few lower players like steamer, pietrus and wilcox? do you try to get a nick young?

i am just not sold on pietrus. he was flat out awful last season. if he is replacing ray's minutes he has to contribute on offense.

Pietrus wouldn't be replacing Ray's minutes.  A lot of that would happen from Terry and Green (with Pierce potentially sliding to the 2 at times to play next to Green at the 3).  Pietrus would be more replacing Dooling's minutes.

  • It's what I do! It's who I am!
I would have rather signed Michael Beasley for 6 mill a year....just being honest..

yep. agreed.

No way. Green is worth it over Beasley just for the knucklehead factor.

hes the successor to paul pierce. hes not an underachiever, you guys are underachievers. its not all about points per game.
That's right. It's also about rebounding, defense, passing, leadership, grit...come on.  Green has a lot to prove.

Hopefully Jeff is the type of player that busts his butt to show that he deserves his contract.  Pierce, KG and Ray were all players like that, that didn't get lazy because they got paid.
"If somebody would have told you when he was playing with the Knicks that Nate Robinson was going to change a big time game and he was going to do it mostly because of his defense, somebody would have got slapped."  Mark Jackson

The concern is both in how such a large contract for a backup level prouducing if talented SF will hurt us in the future.

Plus I just don't see the market for him being so high, I feel like if we got 10 per over four years we're overshooting what is required to sign him.

I've never really seen him bust his butt.  He appears to be more of a coaster.

Man no way 40 mill for green , and I'm a green fan ,

Give him a nice two year deal.... if he proves he is Paul Pierce type of player , then reward him greatly.

There has to be some give... as people have mentioned is gonna get us 20 points and 10 boards a game. ?

I tell you what, this BASS and Green deals and maybe ALlen are sitting up a HUGE deal for Danny to pull off to get another championship calibre talent , like PAU, J. Smith , Or even Dirk.?

We are going to need some LaRGE AMMUNITION to Battle LA , OKC , Nets and Heat.
