You are bugging out if you think Green has shown anything to suggest he can score 25+ a night in the NBA on solid efficiency. He hasn't shown anywhere near the natural scoring ability. You are underestimating the type of talent it takes to put up scoring number like that nightly. Paul Pierce in his prime didn't get above 26ppg and Greens scoring game doesn't show half the versatility.

I'd do 7 per for 3 years. I think that's pretty fair, and I fully expect Green to have a great season next year.
That would be cut of $2M per year from the last contract, which I think is fair givne the circumstances.  It also lines up better with Bass' contract.

Did you read and understand the part where I noted that he was played out of position his whole career?

Does that count for anything? How would Pierce do as a power forward?

Green will probably surpass Pierce as a better player, if not the starter, at some point in the next 2 years.

Pierce has been a rock, but he needs the option of extra rest at this point.

Think of Green as a co-starter with Pierce, if not this year, than most likely next. Also, the last year or two of Pierce's contract are the definition of bad value.
The fact is that Green has a lot to prove before we annoint him the successor to Paul Pierce.  As such, many of us feel the 4/40 number is just not realistic.

This is a TERRIBLE overpayment for an underachiever with no position.

Lol at all the guys ripping Jeff green after he was thrown into our lineup 2 years ago with little to no practice. He should excel next year.

Rondo, Bradley, Green, Bass, Melo fast break = winning.

That's right. It's also about rebounding, defense, passing, leadership, grit...come on.  Green has a lot to prove.

From what I've seen I think Green can be a bigger slightly more efficient Caron Butler. That complete depends on whether he plays within his limitations or tries to be a go to scorer like Butler likes to do. That's a pretty solid player and could be very nice runnning with Rondo.

Jeff Green in no way, shape, or form should be payed more than Michael Beasley.

Which is why this year will be his time to prove himself. If he doesn't show up, trade him elsewhere.

I wouldn't call what Lebron does defense. It's more like assault.

Just doing some rough calculations, for Green to get 4/40, his 1st year would be 9m with 7.5% annual raises.  This would work out to 40.05m.

At the end of the day, while I still think 9m is a massive over-pay for Green, isn't that basically what we were offering him last year.  The whole 4 years part is a little mind-boggling though.  I'd have to imagine there would be huge protections for the Celtics, in the form of non-guaranteed money.

This might actually be fairly close to what the deal ends up being.  Even giving Ray 6m, with all the other confirmed or reported deals out there, we would be right at about 65m.

Pierce-16.8m
Rondo-11m
Garnett-10.6m
Green-9m
Bass-6.2m
Allen-6m
Bradley-1.6m
Sullinger-1.3m
Melo-1.2m
Johnson-1.1m
Joseph-.5m

TOTAL=65.3m

Terry (MLE 5m)
Player X (BAE 1.9m)

TOTAL=72.2m  13 players

We could then add two players for vet minimum deals , which would only count for .8m each (two-year minimum amount), and still be under 74m.

As much as it pains me, Green may very well get his 4yr/40m.  Ugh!

The 4 year contract is perfect. I would be more concerned if it was 3years for 30 million.
