Just talked to Jason Terry. He said there’s a “strong possibility’’ he will sign with Boston tonight. He wants to give the Mavericks one final chance to come up with an offer to keep him. “I want to see what they come up with,’’ Terry said. “But I’m not optimistic.’’

Chris Tomasson
Jason Terry on why he likely will sign with Boston: “I just love that they have a championship pedigree. And I think their point guard (Rajon Rondo) is the best in the business at controlling both ends of the floor. And they’ve got Hall of Famers.’’

Chris Tomasson ‏@christomasson
Jason Terry says that, if he joins the Celtics, he wants Ray Allen to return: "That wouldn't hurt,'' Terry said.

Also in Miami Heat
Jason Terry said he never heard anything the Miami Heat. "I'm still waiting,'' Terry said. But Miami is going all out for Ray Allen.

I really hope Ray screws Miami over. If not in boston...by going to the clippers

Last I checked Jason Terry couldn't help correct our rebounding woes.

No, but he can help our scoring.  Add Jason Terry in the fourth quarter of Game 7 against Miami, and we win.  Long scoring droughts should be a thing of the past.

If guys like Kris Humphries or Chris Kaman ultimately take the mid-level, I'll agree that this was a mistake.  Barring that, I think we need to upgrade where we can.
I'd prefer Terry to Kaman. Kaman isn't a very good rebounder or an efficient scorer. Plus he's a plodder and we desparately need quickness in the frontcourt as much as rebounding.

I don't think Humphries goes for 5 million per year.

I don't think there's any way that either goes for $5 million per season.

Assuming we get Ray back, I'd prefer Kaman to Terry, but 1) beauty is in the eye of the beholder; and 2) it's a moot point.

There's no way Boston was going to get either Kaman or somebody like Humphries for this kind of deal.  One way to look at it is this - would you rather pay 15 million for 3 years of Jason Terry or 50+ million for somebody like OJ Mayo?

Well, that would be interesting. Wonder how Ray would see it.

Big props to Wyc and Co. for okaying all these deals / offers.  If we bring back Green, Bass, Ray, and/or Krstic, we've pretty much locked ourselves into the luxury tax for the foreseeable future.

Educate me again on the particulars of the luxury tax Roy, if you don't mind.  I thought the Celts couldn't offer/use the full MLE if they went over the threshold of 74 million.  I realize that even 73 million is still over the cap, are there 2 levels of luxury tax, from the cap to 74, and then a higher rate over 74?

Please don't leave us at the alter. Last year's West trade was bad enough.

We basically have a $74 million (or so) hard cap to work with now.

We can potentially sign somebody with the bi-annual exception (approximately $2 million per season).  Otherwise, yeah, it's bringing back our own guys and/or sign-and-trades and/or vet minimum contracts.

I'm pumped, but 3 years is kinda dumb.

I agree, but remember the last year of a player's deal they're always a trade chip as an expiring deal.  I'm ok with it in that context.

Looks like it will be final tonight. Terry "not optimistic Dallas will match" and Marc Stein(close to Dal) said they won't match..

Dallas has worked so hard to shed every single penny to have as much cap space as possible the next two years, I doubt they tie themselves up for 3/15 for JET

Don't you see, you guys?

Ray Allen is a team player. He's engaging in some old fashioned industrial espionage. He's running interference for us- the whole Miami visit is a diversion.

He's going to string Miami along as a smoke screen while we snap up all of their plan B vet acquisitions.

Then he'll break their hearts and re-sign with the Celtics.

Ray Allen is my HERO.

Yeah, now Bass/Allen are the remaining big dominos. (I'm assuming the reports of Green getting a contract of indeterminate amount that fits under 74 are true)

We just got the best rebounder in the draft in Jared Sullinger.

Is Jared Sullinger some sort of alias for Anthony Davis or Thomas Robinson?

Look up the percentages, best offensive and defensive rebounder in the draft.

Even if you're going to disagree, he's the third best?  GREAT pick and a great rebounder.  That's the one thing Sully will do no question.
