Let them keep Gordon and let them have Rondo. We get Anthony Davis, the #10 (Kendall Marshall/Lillard/Teague)and eat Okafor's contract, no matter how long it is.

That would be quite a backcourt of now and the future in Rondo/Gordon.

Adding Gordon will not pull Williams to Boston.

Dragic is to unproven to give up Rondo for a oft injured SG.



More to the point, to trade Rondo, it has to be a slam dunk in terms of talent.  This move is not a slam dunk.

Exactly.

This is one of those trades that falls under the "big picture" concept.  In a bubble, you probably say no to Rondo for Gordon and the #10... but if it's part of a grand scheme to lure a guy like Deron Williams, you probably aren't taking a step back.  

That said, it would make more sense if Gordon was still on his rookie contract.  Because he's a restricted free agent, it means he's in line for a pretty big deal.  In other words... if we were talking about trading Rondo to Golden State for Steph Curry (only paid 4 mil next year) and the #7 pick... it's something I'd strongly have to consider depending on what "the other shoe" is.

I actually think there is a pretty good chance that Rondo gets traded for something involving a high draft pick but I don't like this deal.  I am not all that high on Gordon but even if I was, his RFA year is not the right time to get value in a trade.  You give up players and have to pay top dollar for an overrated (in my opinion) player with an injury history.

  Part of the big picture is that Deron seems to be choosing between Brooklyn and Dallas, and the slight possibility that he might decide to sign a long term contract with a team of stars on their last legs and unproven young players isn't enough to tip the scales on whether to do a trade or not.
