Rondo is unquestionably my favorite player in the league and don't want to see him leave the Celtics under any circumstances.

.....however, I think Pau Gasol straight up is a deal you have to make. We immediately become the deepest frontcourt in the NBA with two outstanding wings still around.

I would not mind starting Dooling or even Bradley at the point with that kind of depth all our other positions.

I also think we immediately become a top 10 offense with this trade maybe top 5. Too much offensive talent and LENGTH for any team to match up with.

Lakers no longer use the triangle under Coach Mike Brown.

Ah, true - I guess I have the triangle forever linked to any team with Kobe on it. That said it would still be a big adjustment, because they are still starting Derek Fisher who handles the ball as little as ever.

Has Kobe ever played on a team where he wasn't the primary ballhandler?

I'd be awfully tempted, aside from the strange feelings about any deal with LA. You put Allen, Pierce, Garnett and Gasol out there and you have plenty of ball-handlers and a suddenly deep frontcourt of Garnett / Gasol / Bass / Wilcox / JJJ / O'Neal. Might even be able to now deal one of those guys for another shooter.

Next year you're courting Dwight with a Pierce, Gasol, Howard pitch, and you've committed to getting younger by developing Bradley, JJJ and our 2 1st rounders. Pick up a veteran guard or two and things could get very interesting.

Honestly I don't see how it makes sense for the Lakers. Rondo in the triangle (where the PG spots up for 3s)? Who's going to play the 4?

Well it would be interesting anyway...

Good point re: Howard -- frankly, I haven't been considering him as a possibility. But this trade would make the C's an incredible team with Dwight. And KG would have to come back for 15-20 a night!

Lakers are all but certain to trade Bynum for Dwight.  A Rondo, Kobe, Dwight Laker team would be sad to watch.

The Lakers would tie and more than likely pass us in franchise titles. Not okay.

It's from Hoopsworld, so I take it with a GIGANTIC grain of salt. But if this somehow comes to fruition, mark it down now. I will stop watching basketball.

Yeah, don't see that happening.

On the flipside, they do this deal then likely move Bynum for D12.

Makes a lot more sense for the Lakers than it does for us.

Rondo - Kobe - Dwight would indeed be scary, free throw troubles notwithstanding.

Maybe, but I'm not totally convinced Orlando does that deal. The Lakers have absolutely nothing to sweeten the deal with, and Bynum is only signed for 1 more year after which he could walk and they are left with nothing. He also has a long injury history and Orlando can't unload any bad contracts. They'd be getting 1 year of Bynum (if he stays healthy) and no young players and no cap relief.

I would trade Rondo for Marc Gasol... but never Pau. I hate that guy.

I still believe that Ainge is eyeing next years loaded draft.  To get into the top 10, I think Rondo is used as the centerpiece.

Ainge is EXTREMELY high on the 21 year old Avery Bradley.  He IS the PG of this team going forward.  I've accepted this reality and I'm ok with it.  Sky's the limit still for this kid.

and at the end of the day, does it matter? we would still be making our team better (if that's your take on it), regardless of what they then do to their team. what difference does it make if the lakers have the best ever team if we never even get out of the EC playoffs to face them?

How about Gasol and Fisher for Rondo, O'Neal, Wilcox, and Dooling??  This can be done on March 1 or forward.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Not happening.
Rondo for Bynum, now that's a move that works for us, and will also entice Dwight to go to LA as a free agent.

Rondo,
Kobe
Dwight
Gasol

would basically be unstoppable.

Rondo for Gasol, no way.
Gasol is on the decline, every GM can see this.
Danny will ask for bigger, or trade into the draft.

As someone pointed out, the Celtic brass are very keen on Bradley as our PG. I don't know why, but I'm a little worried.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
