So, you are telling me the C's would consider their PG, whose value is reportedly very low around the league

source plz?

You got me, its basically speculation based on reports around the Chris Paul trades.

And by very low, I mean compared to what he brings to his production.

Basically, I believe that right now, teams are not looking to pay a premium for Rajon Rondo.  So, if you can get a top 5 center, who will likely earn his money for the rest of his contract, and give the team a very good chance to win this year...I think you do it.

It would hurt as a fan but Rondo+ JO for Gasol works under the cap. The Lakers get a young core of Rondo and Bynum.

The Cs become a nightmare match up with Gasol and KG. The length and skill they both bring will be trouble for every team in the east. The Cs showed that they can be effective with out rondo in the time that he was injured. Gasol is 31 and his contract will run out when Pierce's does. I believe this trade will leave us with 17mill under he cap for next year. I especially like this trade if we can keep both of our picks in this draft.

I think there has to be a reason this Rondo speculation keeps coming up.  I have to admit that I have assumed several times that teams don't value him as much as we'd like.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
Just heard this on the Sports Hub. Sounds like the smoke is starting to blow around as the deadline looms near. Doesn't make much sense for us, unless we intend on going after Deron or ERic Bledsoe in the offseason. Still doesn't make sense...Uh, and trading with the Lakers...just signifies a changing of the guard as we obviously don't expect to see each other in the finals this year.

I am holding out on trading for Deron Williams still.

Why trade him right now though? We are making strides as a team and since his 3 games back he has helped a lot. You wanna talk about the perk trade hurting the team this would hurt this team a lot. Plus Boston itself would not be to pleased giving up Rondo to our biggest rival.

Three is no real smoke here.  It is completely speculation by a blogger, with very little to go on (and IMO, just misinterpreted what was meant as a subtle dig at Stern for killing the Chris Paul deal).

I think it is a fascinating discussion of whether this deal makes any sense, but this is no more a legit rumor than anything found in the trade ideas thread that involved someone just playing around with the trade machine.

Any chance Rondo for Bynum works in the trade machine? I think that might make more sense.

Bynum is a franchise center and almost every bit the player that Dwight Howard is.

Problem with that is I think LA would rather hold Bynum as "Dwight trade chip.

How many times have we traded with the Lakers?

The only one I remember was Mihm for Payton and we got the draft pick that became Rondo as a throw in.

Hmmm . . .

I really think the idea of not trading with rivals is a bit archaic.  Its just not an issue in todays NBA.

Now, teams will hesitate to trade with teams in their own division, or even their own conference, because they are afraid it will come back  to haunt them.  But, I really don't think todays GMs give the slightest thought to the C's/Lakers rivalry.

The much bigger measuring stick for whether a trade will be made is with the personal relationships between the GMs involved, as well as the agents.

But if Danny can make a deal with the Lakers that makes the C's a better team, he doesn't think twice.  Because the rivalry means nothing to him, compared to keeping his job, and building a legacy of a guy who builds championship teams.

Rondo to LA?
Only in this case:
BOS: Rondo to LAL
     O'Neal to LAL
     Pavlović to LAL
     Wilcox to ORL
     2012 1st, 2012 Clippers 1st to ORL
LAL: Gasol to ORL
     Goudelock to BOS
2012 1st to ORL (via BOS)
ORL: Howard to BOS

So we basically trade Rondo, JO, Wilcox and 2 first for DH12, Lakers trade Gasol and first for Rondo and JO, and Magic trade Howard for Gasol, Wilcox and 3 first round picks in 2012.

We than have:
Bradley / Dooling / Goudelock / buyout candidate
Allen / Pietrus / Moore
Pierce / Pietrus / Daniels
Garnett / Bass / Johnson
Howard / Garnett / Stiemsma

We could re-sign Howard, Garnett and Allen with Bird-rights, and would have a MLE to either spend on resigning Pietrus or try to land back Jeff Green.
Man, imagine defensive lineup of Bradley, Pietrus, Pierce, Garnett and Howard. Good luck try to score 90 points against.

And as for Orlando, do they really think they can get better offer then legitime all-star big man Gasol, cheap effective center Wilcox and 3 first round picks in very deep draft?

no way the lakers facilitate a trade that send howard to the Cs. I also dont see the Lakers giving up Bynum. Either he becomes there chip to get Howard or he and Rondo would be the future of the lakers.

Agreed... one of the weakest rumors I've seen if you follow the chain.

“Well, if there were a way for us to get a 25-year-old, All-Star, ball-handling guard we’d love to do it," said Kupchak to Mike Trudell of Lakers.com. "But that’s not likely in February. So you look at other alternatives, and see if it’s better than what you have. That’s all.”

It's like saying, "If boston can land a 25 year old big man they would".  No kidding.  Duh.  Nothing *wink, wink* about that statement.  You dont' need to start checking to see how old Bogut, Bynum, Kevin Love, Al Jefferson, Paul Millisap and Dwight are to figure out which guy we are targeting.  It's a throw-away statement.  If Kupchick says "mid 20s" instead of "25", nobody even name-drops Rondo.

The part about Boston being interested in Pau Gasol according to "sources" is probably garbage as well.

Btw, Eric Pincus is an idiot.  I caught him reporting rumors as fact during the Laker/Chris Paul trade veto and called him out on it during a twitter argument.  He's not a credible writer.  Move along, people... nothing to see here.
