I still believe that Ainge is eyeing next years loaded draft.  To get into the top 10, I think Rondo is used as the centerpiece.

Ainge is EXTREMELY high on the 21 year old Avery Bradley.  He IS the PG of this team going forward.  I've accepted this reality and I'm ok with it.  Sky's the limit still for this kid.
I honestly can't tell if this is sarcasm.  Bradley pg of the future  ::)
I'm happy with him playing good defense but he's years away from being a good point guard.

Seconded. Right now he's on his way to being a fringe starter and a better Tony Allen at the PG. But hey, he's 21 and athletic and he's improving exponentially.

Bradley at PG right now consists of a few high awkward dribbles above the 3 point line and getting the ball to pierce early in the shot clock.

Pincus seems like a nice enough guy (through email and twitter), but I'm not sure I trust his sources anymore.

Wow - intriguing trade idea.

If there is any truth to this, and it happens in a few weeks, then I'd trust that Danny hadn't fallen off of his rocker.

I know Pau is getting up there in years, but I don't think his apparent decline is due to his age. I'm sure there is a natural decline to his game (he is 31, will be 32 later this year). For now, though - any statistical decline we see IMO is due to how Mike Brown is using him - not that Pau is declining rapidly.

The man has been relatively healthy his entire career, with the exception of the 2004-05 season in MEM where he missed some games.

He was the most talented Big in 2009-10. I still think that a healthy KG (and Perk) would've brought us Banner 18 that year, but Pau certainly would've made it tougher.

As has been mentioned in the thread - can anyone imagine the ball-movement with Paul-KG-Pau? Wow.

Fast-forward to now? I still think such a trade would help us. The various scenarios for the future (from reading Eddie20 and stylo's posts) would seemingly prop our window open for a couple more years I suppose.

But Lord I'd miss Rondo. I think he is getting better as a PG. There is so much speculation here, even with this rumor.

But - how many of us saw what was coming in Feb 2011? I know I didn't.

I guess that if the rumor gets some traction on ESPN then there might be a shred of truth to it, but who knows? Not every trade discussed there happens, either.

I guess we'll see over the next few weeks.

Them trading Gasol for Rondo would probally based on LA somehow landing DH , by trading Bynum. At that point they can do without Gasol , Rondo becomes more important to them. He is much younger.

I think we lose in this deal. Unless by a miracle we draft an incredible Point G. talent.

Landing DH in LA is not something Boston should be part of.

Then in the NBA , it s all about making LA the "ONLY" team.

Here are his his basketball-reference stats:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gasolpa01.html

It is awfully hard to beat 16.4, 10.1 rebs and 3.0 assists. Toss in 1.2 blocks (even though he is playing away from the basket under Mike Brown).

Toss in JO (hopefully), Bass and an up-and coming Jajuan Johnson and that is a formidable frontline tandem. No matter who our opponents are when you can throw THAT kind of length at them that is hard to beat.

I understand your concern...I certainly don't want Dwight in LA, either.

But I think ORL would be foolish to accept Dwight for Bynum straight up. They'd better demand BOTH Pau and Drew.

I base this on how Dwight basically man-handled Drew in ORL. He was CLEARLY head and shoulders better than him.

I would think that Otis Smith would demand more in such a trade with LA.

To me LA still has either the 1st or 2nd front best line (when healthy) in the NBA.  Bynum is the best he has ever been.  They already play well as a team. They got Kobe. FIsher needs to retire. They are basically a point guard and a couple better bench players away from being back on top.  Long as Kobe can score 40 points at will ever night , they are going to be hard to deal with. Addition or Rondo would make them better than OKC or Portland IMO. TO me the superstar point guard is more important than DH being on their team .

I'm sure what ever happens , as always we'll get the small end of the deal when it comes to LA...they are Lucky.

In comparing the potential deal, how the parts fit is a big question mark for LA. I think it's a certainty that Gasol would excel in Boston by having KG play Ty Chandler to his Dirk, and be part of a ball movement/motion scheme. However, the big question is how Rondo would fair in LA. Kobe and Rondo are ball dominant players, and then you have to factor Bynum and the touches he needs inside. LA has been struggling with perimeter shooting all year long and this would further hurt their spacing. Obviously they would get some easy looks in transition, but that team is not built to run and will likely struggle in halfcourt sets.

I am not sure this article has anything to do with "sources" though.  This is just a blogger making up a story from a cryptic quote.

The only "source" mentioned really, is the one that said the C's would have interest in trading Rondo for Gasol.

So, you are telling me the C's would consider their PG, whose value is reportedly very low around the league right now for a top 5 center in the league, who is still in his prime, only has a couple more years on his contract, and could immediately make his team a top 3 or 4 favorite to win the championship this year?

I would be shocked if they weren't at least interested.

Aside from Andrew DeClerq for Travis Knight back in the Rick Pitino era, the Celtics and Lakers have never traded directly with each other in the History of the NBA :D Someone is welcome to correct me on that if they do come up with another trade between the Celtics and Lakers that has occurred.

Rondo to Memphis for Marc Gasol seems like a fair deal to me. While we are at Rondo and Ray for Tony Allen and Marc Gasol might be more equitable. Have Avery Bradley and Tony Allen pressure every back court in this league.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Call me crazy but i don't think i'd do it if it meant giving up Rondo AND Jermaine. You've gotta retain some of the teams toughness since you're already trading Rondo, who is one tough SOB, for Gasol who is known to be soft.

Yeah, the Gary Payton trade.

I wouldn't even swap Rondo for Pau straight up (not considering salary). I'm like the craziest person in the world.  8)
