would do it but gasol is making nearly 40 mill over the next 2 years how are we going to rebuild with a contract like that unless

we can somehow flip gasol for howard at the deadline in a last minute deal for gasol & 3 1st round picks (ainge would have to demand it in  a trade for gasol) but that it even less likely

say ainge says toe heck with it & trades for him we'll have to beg aaron brooks to come play

A couple people have already nailed this, but again, we DON'T rebuild.  That's the beauty of this deal.  At least not for 2 more seasons we don't; we'd likely be around a 50 win team for the next 2 seasons.

its a pretty solid feeling here that we would not do gasol for rondo but what about bynum for rondo.  I think I would do that in a heart beat.

Torn on the trade, which has to to be Rondo/JO for Gasol to make the math work. However, if they toss in both their 1st rd picks (they also have the Mavs) then I would lean towards doing it. Would love to see what Ainge could do with 4 1st rd picks in a really deep draft.

Gasol and KG's interior passing would be amazing. This would also free up a roster space and Aaron Brooks, and his shooting ability, would be a nice fit alongside the Big 3 & Gasol.

yesh ONLY if we bring in brooks & get thier 1st rounders do i do it

it makes sence for them moving foward a rondo/bynum tandem can be really grwat moing foward with both players only going to get better

but why would we help LA stay relevent in the future? contractually there in ugly territory which ca hinder them for a while wouldnt we as boston fans like to se that?

listen gasol but moving foward with no cap space & an aging core is not the way to go especially since a brooks/allen/pierce/KG/gasol lineup dosent gurentee us a title

Ainge's feeling might be that there are just not enough options to go for the FA signing this year. Instead, you make a trade to add a top big man, and draft picks, and try to remain a contender for the next 2 years. We would have some cap space available and we would have the ability to bring back KG, Allen, Pietrus, Wilcox, and Green. Doubt Bass would return because of the amount he'll probably look to make and the hopeful continued development of JJ.

If this hypothetical trade does go through, and we do acquire 2 first rd draft picks in the process, at the end of the 13-14 season we would only have JJ, Moore, Bradley, and a bunch of rookie contacts on the books, since both Gasol's and Pierce's contract expire then, and a ton of cap space available. The thinking here would be that JJ & Bradley both become solid starters and Ainge is able to hit a home run, or two, with all those draft picks.

I just threw up in my mouth when I read this, but I'm not sure if it's because I hate the idea of giving away my favorite player in Rondo or the fact that Gasol could and would help this Celtics team dramatically...

I could actually see DA pulling the trigger on this because:
1) He loves Avery and sees him as a legitimate replacement for RR
2) Or he's talked to Aaron Brooks on the DL and has already convinced him to play here
3) Or he sees the possibility of collecting picks and maybe trading up to get Austin Rivers in the draft (or maybe a player with similar skills as Rondo like Kendall Marshall?)

I am truly torn on this one. My heart says hell no while my head says hell yeah. If the KG effect took place and Gasol started playing better defense, I'd do it.. I think..

If Danny Ainge wants to anihalate at an atomic level the chemistry on this team, then make the trade. If you want to give this core of players that love each other and play great together a chance at a championship, leave them as is.

Easy, we make the move, we don't rebuild... that's the reason why you make the move.

Exactly.  He isn't Dwight Howard, but you could make a case he is among the best big men in the league other than Howard.  If you can get a guy like that, you do it.
Do you remember Memphis when all they had is Gasol? That's where we would be heading.

I would love the Gasol move if we also got Deron.

I love Rondo but it is hard to predict his future when he is so far from the norm.

Im torn on this. On one side we could be able to win 18 with Ray, Paul, KG and Gasoft i mean Gasol right away. But it does kill our cap space for next year, not allowing us to sign a superstar, or even a couple of high tier talent, while losing Rondo.

I might say no to this trade just because of the future of the team. But if we really WANT to win now, this makes sense.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

We'll get stuck if we do this trade. Horrible.

I actually think Rondo for Gasol makes some sense for both teams.  However, I sure hope the C's wouldn't be planning on going forward with Bradley and Dooling as their PGs.

If they made this trade, then I would try to spin of Ray for a PG and another asset.  I wonder if the Clippers would give up Mo Williams and their young PG (I am drawing a blank on his name) for Ray...

Then we have a mediocre team. Get swept in 1st round every year.

Pau is not even a better player than Rondo at this point, and he's old and declining, not to mention his contract is twice as big as Rondo's.

I really don't understand why some C's fans are torn on this trade. It's a robbery, plain and simple. Hopefully Ainge won't do this stupid thing.

I still believe that Ainge is eyeing next years loaded draft.  To get into the top 10, I think Rondo is used as the centerpiece.

Ainge is EXTREMELY high on the 21 year old Avery Bradley.  He IS the PG of this team going forward.  I've accepted this reality and I'm ok with it.  Sky's the limit still for this kid.
I honestly can't tell if this is sarcasm.  Bradley pg of the future  ::)
I'm happy with him playing good defense but he's years away from being a good point guard.
