I don't think people have really thought through what "rebuilding" means. There are very few players out there that you even conceivably build around and even fewer that are even remotely available.

The only players on the horizon are KLove and DH and having Pierce is actually a selling point for landing these guys no a hinderance.

For all the people want to "rebuild," what exactly do you want on the other side of this thing? I mean, Caron Butler and Eric Bledsoe...that's not rebuilding that's not rebuilding...

2013??? No. You can't build a team around Eric Gordon and Josh Smith...

huh? so you are saying you can't build a team around Gordon or Smith, yet you want to keep pierce on the books at 35 years old making 16 mil for the next 3 years and have him as one of your cornerstones and Love and Dwight will be attracted to that ?

great logic there....

We have to rebuild after this year anyways so I don't see why we would hang on to PP if we can get a good return for him that opens up another 10 mil in cap space and lands us a young piece and/or pick

Den s+t JR Smith or Chandler and Andre Miller's expiring contract for PP and dooling.

I would do a trade like that in a second

No, you can't build a good team around Gordon and Smith; however, if you have a season or two of tanking prior to acquiring one or both of them, you could have other valuable pieces to build around, or to put into a trade along with Gordon or Smith to acquire a true franchise player.

I can't say that I care about Pierce getting back home...blah blah.

I don't see helping the Clips since we have their 1st round pick via the Perk trade. So unless there is some added compaensation for the loss of the pick's posiiton as well as the right players, they would be off the table. I'd help a team that would be in a position to deliver more losses to the clips and make the pick better.

No way the Hawks trade Smith away for the 34 years old Pierce.

Not a lot of upside to trading Pierce for cap space.  The amnesty card still looms if he significantly drops off as a player, and if not he's still a very good two-way player who can contribute a lot next year.

Unless it's for a younger fringe star (Granger, Gay, Horford, Josh Smith) signed longish-term or a high-level prospect (Evan Turner), I don't see the appeal.

I think Pierce stays on at least until the offseason, at which point he sees how we do in free agency.  If we score some quality immediate contributors (my preferred scenario: AK-47, JR Smith and Omer Asik) and bring back Ray he stays on; if we take short-term gambles on inconsistent young guys (Beasley, A. Randolph, Javale McGee, OJ Mayo) and fill the rotation with Bradley, JJ and the two new first rounders, I could see him quietly requesting a trade.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

I thought Pierce had 1 more guaranteed year and the 4th was a team option???

It depends on the deal, but I'm open. If we are going to blow it up, then we can't get Caron Butler types. A few different realistic and unrealistic deals.

Javeel McGee and filler for Pierce, Bass and #1

Josh Smith straight up. You may lose Smith to free agency, but you do have the ability to offer more than anyone else.

Villanueva's bad contract and Greg Monroe for Pierce and a 1st

Unrealistic, but

Howard, Turkalou's bad contract for Pierce, Rondo, 1st round pick. (somehow you would need Howard to sign off. Highly unlikely)

Gerald Wallace for Pierce and a 1st

Pierce, but what's the point?

The Hawks are not gonna give away Smith to improve their 3 spot (with Horford out).

Lepooo, you have a point, but we've all seen how Josh Smith is in the playoffs. Teams just play off of him and dare him to shoot (which he does and misses).

The reason Atlanta could make the deal is because they need a veteran leader who is more consistent and could help Atlanta get over that hump (I doubt it, but that's the PR talk Ainge can give)

ummmm no. Big Al is always hurt and his body has never been in tip top shape. This is the same guy, Utah had been rumor to amnesty over.

ok pierce is better so why wouldn't they want a extra scorer in the starting line up throw in wilcox or bass or hell maybe they can start ivan johnson who knows but this is not a bad deal for either side
