every young team needs at least one finals experienced , or past all star,or championship winner in their starting line that's maybe why teams are looking to get pierce

No way the Hawks trade Smith away for the 34 years old Pierce.

right now who's better pierce or marvin williams?

Pierce, but what's the point?

The Hawks are not gonna give away Smith to improve their 3 spot (with Horford out).

ok pierce is better so why wouldn't they want a extra scorer in the starting line up throw in wilcox or bass or hell maybe they can start ivan johnson who knows but this is not a bad deal for either side

If Atlanta wants to win now, then it's a no brainer because Josh Smith likely leaves anyway.

At the end of the day, I just can't see myself liking Josh Smith in a Celtic uniform. He's everything that's wrong with the NBA. Doesn't play hard all the time, takes dumb shots and is immature. Not a Celtic type of guy

If Pierce was happy (this matters to me for multiple reasons), these are some deals I would accept - of course we should get more if we could:

DENVER: Miller (expiring), Brewer (cheap, young, role player), 1st rounder

CLIPPERS: can't see it... Mo Williams has an expensive player option for next year that he'll probably exercise, Butler is locked in for multiple years, and we already have their 1st rounder this year. Maybe Williams + Bledsoe + Trey Thompkins + future 1st?

INDIANA: straight up for Granger? He makes slightly less money, is 5 years younger... is struggling right now (buy low?)

PHILLY: Nocioni (expiring), Hawes (expiring), 1st rounder (note: in my opinion Vucevic is the future C in Philly and already about equal with Hawes, but I don't exactly watch them much).

I can't see the Blazers trading Wallace, seems like a lateral move for them and doesn't really free up cash for us?

you would really make those crappy deals at the bolded? hahahahaha u really think thats enough for trading Paul Pierce?! man this site always amazes me daily

I can't get behind trading Pierce. He stuck with the Celtics through the kind of terrible years that have today's stars practically forcing their way out of town. His legacy means more to this city than getting back a handful of mediocre talent, low draft picks, or expiring contracts.
Playing with the trade machine is fun, but there is no realistic trade that can justify shipping Pierce out of Boston

JaVale McGee? That guy is a clown and an embarrassing waste of talent. Not to mention that sending Pierce to the Wizards would be the ultimate slap in the face.

doc just needs to let josh know his role get inside be about defense block shots and don't try to be something your not and i kinda hate his 3 pointer but either he can improve or stop taking it..i think it can work and rondo passing can make it more easier

McGee is a clown, but if you think Ainge wouldn't do McGee for Pierce and a 1st then you are out of your mind. 100000% chance that Ainge would accept that deal in a heart beat.

McGee has raw talent and I believe KG would set him straight. He's just been in a terrible environment down there in Washington.

Think about it, opposing fans thought PP was a clown when we sucked. You put him around smart, no-nonsense players and we could have ourselves a center for the next 10 years.

Not even worth thinking about because it would require Rondo

so, just gotta throw it out there...
pierce for big al works
not saying i'd do it but hey...

ummmm no. Big Al is always hurt and his body has never been in tip top shape. This is the same guy, Utah had been rumor to amnesty over.

like i said "not saying i'd do it"
however your statements are off base.
in the two years following his surgery Al started 76 then 82 games. not what i'd call " always hurt."
and as an obsessive follower of celtics news, celtics rumors, former celtics news and rumors and any internet buzz with even a whiff of celtics relatedness, I never herd anything about the jazz amnestying jefferson. (i did read a post on this blog from some fan dreaming up a wishlist of potential amnesty cuts, big al was on that list ::))

This trade could make sense for both teams and we get a young guy who could have monster potential. I would want a 1st as well.

Exactly the type of trade I would expect at the deadline if we suck and Portland is contending. We get young talent. A 1st rounder. Salary relief. Portland gets pierce and Pierce gets a shot at another ring as a reward for all he has done here.

Pierce ain't going no where.

Danny has balls, but he will not trade Paul Pierce after 10 years with the C's. Forget it.

The old guys will ride it out and the cap space will explode next year. Hopefully we can sign Ray and KG for cheap deals to come off the bench.

Enjoy the last year because we are going to stink for a long time after this year.

Keep him.  Paul's presence will be of incalculable value as the team moves into its next phase.  I don't think his leadership and connection to what being a true Celtic means should be overlooked.  I know it sounds corny, but these are the kinds of things that I believe good teams do think about when establishing the right culture for their franchise.

I think a bit more patience is in order. Woj wrote a good article, as usual, and the end of it -- when he writes about this feeling like the end for this Celtics team -- was especially poignant -- but I think we've gotta give these guys at least through the end of January. Remember: Pierce's first couple of games back were good, then he hit a wall, which I'm sure was mostly, if not all, due to his missing training camp, and then he had a good game against OKC last night, so maybe he's well on his way to being in game shape. His continued improvement should only open things up for Ray, who's had a pretty good season so far. That leaves KG, who admittedly is looking bad, as Hollinger illustrates well with statistics, but I'm having a hard time seeing how a guy could fall off so much in just one season; I'm hoping that a little more playing time will allow KG to come around to the point where he's at least solid. JO's had two solid games in a row, Pietrus has given the team a bit of a lift, and he and Quis combined for some good wing defense against the Thunder.

I guess what I'm saying is, as much as I want these guys to get their act together yesterday, it still may be too early to make a final determination. If things are still this bad two or three weeks from now, then it may be time to make some moves. Heck, even if the team's improved somewhat by that point, but it's pretty clear that the first or second round of the playoffs is as far as they'll go, perhaps we should take advantage of the contenders' desire for another go-to scorer such as Pierce, or another sharpshooter such as Allen. I'd like to see all these guys finish their careers in Boston, but I think the welfare of the team ultimately has to come first.

I do like the Portland idea thought. Batum ain't special but it gives us cap relief and a young stud to run with Rondo.

Would rather a pick than Camby.

Still, overall I'd like Pierce to remain a Celtic till he retires.

Yeah I agree. trades are always fun to debate, but at least give the Big 3 one last year together and let us enjoy their presence. I bought tickets for the LA game in Boston, the first floor row behind the Celtics bench. I'm from Texas and went to the Game 7 Lebron-Pierce and Game 6 clincher, but I never got up close to see everything. It's the last time I'll ever have the chance to see how KG as a Celtic

No No No !!!!!!

it should still mean something special to be a Celtic.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce
