Here's the trades I have come up with for contenders

Bos sends: PP,Dooling, Wilcox
Lac sends: Butlers, Bledsoe and filler

Bos sends: PP, Daniels, JO
Por sends: Wallace , Camby(expiring)

Bos sends: PP, Dooling , Daniels
Den sends: Miller(expiring) Fernandez and Brewer

I think I would do all of those trades.

If those are my 3 options id take the 3rd... ive always liked rudy fernandez, he'd be a good piece to rebuilding team
I think we can get more than this.  The Denver trade looks decent on paper, but Miller does not help us get younger, Fernandez has played awful this year, and Brewer hasn't even sniffed the court in Denver.  And i've never thought Brewer was actually that good.

True, if we trade PP I want the best for him. Not only do we deserve it, he deserves it

Good point Kane regarding the cap - didn't check how many years Butler has left on his contract. But if we could then turn around and move Butler in the off season to another team on the bubble of winning a ring, for an expiring and another young player with good upside...

I'm interested in the kid Trey Thompkins AND Bledsoe though
* Thompkins looks like he could develop a good low post game
* Bledsoe could be developed further and then figure out what do do with him.

Moving forward:

Center Spot / Player / Stiemsma
Bass / Trey Thompkins / JJJ
Caron Butler / Jeff Green /
Off Guard / Mo Willimas / ETwuan Moore
Rondo / Bledsoe

* Two draft picks in this year's draft
* KG and Ray's, O'neal's and Daniel's money still comes off so we're i the same position had we kept Pierce...
* But you could then trade Butler this off season for another expiring and a young player
* Mo Williams is also very tradeable next season...
* Let the young core grow...
* Use your cap space to land a max guy at off guard and a good center like Javale McGee - who I think will excel in the right system.

Thoughts?

Tho

So you guys are debating which piles of dog dung you are willing to trade for the most important Celtic of the last 20 years? Good to know.

I think the main temptation in trading Pierce is going to be in securing even greater amounts of cap space moving forward.  I doubt we'll see any teams offering great packages of talent / picks.

An even bigger temptation is that it will improve our draft position in what is shaping up to be an excellent crop. The earlier we move him, the better. We already will have cap room.

Danny is a fan of this approach. Remember when Pierce got "hurt" in 2007?

The one thing I'd bet on is that Ainge won't deal Pierce for cap space.  Any trade will include a young player or a pick coming to the Celtics.  Ainge has seen how hard it is to attract free agents to Boston.

attracting free agents here is definitely the biggest problem... its not that boston is the least attractive destination...but they want a team that looks like it can be strong in coming years

I agree they are slim. There just doesn't seem to be a good partner out there for us to move him. If Denver would move Gallinari I would be interested. He could play the Ray Allen role just as a SF.

Still if you come across a deal that speeds up the time it would take for us to contend again then you have to do it. I love Pierce and am a huge fan of his, but I am a Celtic's fan first. So yes I move Pierce in the twilight of his career if it means we get pieces that take us from rebuilding to contention faster.

No one finds it coincidental that in an article about Kendrick Perkins, that Wojo throws in a one liner about people questioning if the Celts were going to blow it up, mentions Pierce, then says a couple of lines regarding the C's future prospects and gives it a headline "Paul Pierce being traded?"?

No one else sees that this was just a chance to widen the reading audience by throwing out an unbelievable rumor while writing an article about Kendrick Perkins return which, if the article was labeled "Perk reunites with Celtics after game", no one would have read?

So when the Celtics are winning 20 games a year for the next 5 years, it'll be cool with you as long as Paul Pierce plays his entire career on the Celtics?

Where I come from, success on the court outweighs sentiment.

I'd only trade Pierce if he was Ok with it and wanted to go compete for rings somewhere else during his last few seasons, rather than grinding it out on a rebuilding team.

If Pierce wanted to stay, I'd honor that, make use of the Cap space I get from KG, Ray, O'Neal, Bass, Marquis, Wilcox and Dooling's expiring contracts and incorporate Pierce into the mix as usual.

However, the following scenario works very well for me if Pierce wanted to go:

Clippers:
Pierce, Wilcox and Dooling for Butler, Mo Williams, Beldsoe and Thompkins.
* Thompkins and Bledsoe are good young player pieces
* You cna Flip Butler for more young talent in the off season and Williams is tradeable next year for additional picks of young players

Pierce gets to go home and play in front of family and friends with Blake Griffin and Chris Paul - hardly a punishment for him. He's knows his number is getting raised here.

After the Clipper's, now owning the best "trio" in the game in Griffin, Pierce and Paul, raise a ring or two, Pierce's Jersey might get raised in Staples center as well.

Celts young nucleus, moving forward:
* Thompkins, JJJ, Bass, Jeff Green, Bledsoe, Moore, Rondo
* Butler and Williams flipped for additional young talent
* Two draft picks in this year's draft
* Major Cap space available for max free agents as they come available

If you work that right, you'd be suprised how quickly you could be back in contention.

It would hinge on being able to land 1-2 max guys with your cap space and maybe getting lucky in the draft.

I know the salaries don't work one for one but no way the Cs trade Pierce for anything but a blue chip young player along the lines of...

Kevin Love
Westbrooks
or
Tyreke Evans (And the Cs probably say no to an Evans deal)

If Pierce was happy (this matters to me for multiple reasons), these are some deals I would accept - of course we should get more if we could:

DENVER: Miller (expiring), Brewer (cheap, young, role player), 1st rounder

CLIPPERS: can't see it... Mo Williams has an expensive player option for next year that he'll probably exercise, Butler is locked in for multiple years, and we already have their 1st rounder this year. Maybe Williams + Bledsoe + Trey Thompkins + future 1st?

INDIANA: straight up for Granger? He makes slightly less money, is 5 years younger... is struggling right now (buy low?)

PHILLY: Nocioni (expiring), Hawes (expiring), 1st rounder (note: in my opinion Vucevic is the future C in Philly and already about equal with Hawes, but I don't exactly watch them much).

I can't see the Blazers trading Wallace, seems like a lateral move for them and doesn't really free up cash for us?

Otis Smith is probably one GM that called, they would like veterans for Howard.

I wouldn't like to trade Pierce, doesn't look good for his legacy,he's one of the all time best Celtics.
To be honest if the magic would trade howard for a package centered around pierce thats something you can't turn down (mainly cause id be shocked).

But no I hear what you're saying he's one of the all time great Celtics. But his contract is perplexing... if he plays one last season somewhere else, he's still going down as one of the all time great celtics that played for over a decade and won a ring in this organization.
Pierce for Howard works straight up I think. Even with some filler from our side.
