The reason this would be less likely to get vetoed is because West is an unrestricted free agent and already has control over where he goes.  So N.O. could either let him walk for nothing or get something in return via trade.  I'm not sure J.O. and Pavlovic is something in return though.  I think New Orleans must be getting either Jeff Green or maybe Avery Bradley or the Clippers draft pick this year, plus $3 million to help pay for J.O.

Hollinger mentioned that this trade could jeopardize the Chris Paul trade, so I really don't understand what's going on in N.O.

For someone who is just waking up -- can someone clarify as to whether the deal is in play or dead?  The top story on the CB front page has the deal dead -- but it appears that this is not the current thinking.

If still alive, can someone find the rationale that would justify NO (or a 3rd team) taking JO for West?  C's have to be giving up something else.

Last note -- I had been wondering if the Lakers would find a way to get West once the CP deal was done.  Would love get West before Lakers are back in the market.
I can't find a link that says its dead. Jeff's link refers to Jeff Green as being traded for West. That contradicts other reports.

herald said it was, but WOJ/spears said it was still on after that report...

so, I personally trust WOJ/spears more than some boston beat writer.

Where does it say this?  If this deal is on, and really goes through as JO and Sasha for West, then Danny is a thief lol.

It says it in the Yahoo story, but there's a 3rd team willing to take on JO apparently. If this pulls through, Danny deserves not to be questioned for another five years.

I'm confused.

Can someone explain how it is that sasha pavlovic is included in one of the rumored deals? he's not currently on the c's payroll, do the c's still own his rights and he'd be s&t-ed to NO together with JO?

As long as Wojo and Spears say this trade is on then it is on. Chris Broussard was just on SC and said they are still working out the details..these sign and trade deals take a little while to formalize. The players in the trade have to be signed and who knows where they are. The Tyson Chandler sign and trade has been in the same situation for the last 48 hours and  noway is question when that will be done, it just takes a little while.

Quote
Ainge, known for his blockbuster moves, nearly pulled off another one last night when he reportedly came close to signing pricey free agent David West. It was unclear whether he attempted to use restricted free agent Jeff Green in a sign-and-trade to make the deal for West possible.

“They’re out of that race, but they did try,” said a league source.

The Celtics later reached agreement with Green on a one-year deal. Green was in the practice facility but not allowed to practice. . . .

I really hope this happens...

I assume KG would be playing the center spot?  I mean if you get west you can't have him coming off the bench can you?

there has been abosolutely no other mention of this thing not happening. I would trust full articles on the front page of Yahoo, NBA and ESPN dedicated to reporting the story, reported by the likes of Wojo, Spears and David Aldridge as well as Chris Broussard. THe Herald has a little blurb about it buried inside another article, with information that is not even correct. Just be patient it will get done.

The Celtics still have the 3 million dollar mini mid level exception which I would fully expect them to use on a center

The Hornets should be demanding the Clippers or two future first round picks in exchange for signing and trading David West.
