Wait are we really using a RealGM messageboard poster as a source?

Even Hornets fans, who have been hating on Rondo since the rumors started, are begging Ainge to get a deal done to save them from the Lakers crap deal.

Take this post from HornetsReport:
Quote
PLEASE Ainge, SAVE US FROM CP TO LAKERS!!!!!!!! If he can find a 3rd team to take Rondo, and land us the Clips 1st (prob15-20th range), another 1st, and young talent, I'd love that over Houston/LA deal.

Ugh... what does "trepidation" mean in that context? Can't understand it.

yeah, it's a weird word to use.

Pretty sure in that context it is saying they are "expressing apprehension" about the deal.

Maybe I'm wrong though.

They're nervous about it, they saw how the league freaked the hell out on Chris Wallace for the Pau Gasol deal. Chris Wallace has been jumpy in trade talks sense then because of all the criticism.

So, if the Lakers can't deal for Paul, would they be better or worse if they just traded Pau for Scola/Martin?

It would require moving Kobe to small forward, most likely, and it would hurt their defense.  Still, I'd at least be tempted.

Rightfully so. That was embarrassing.

Just like this deal would be if it went through. Especially with the league running the Hornets right now.

If they did go for it, I think there would be less of an uproar.  The Lakers would be giving up Gasol, widely regarded as one of the best bigs in the game.  We're not talking about Kwame's expiring contract and some late draft picks.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

That doesn't address their weaknesses.  Kobe and Pau are much, much better options at the 2 and 4.

Thanks for the clarification guys. Yeah, they should definitely express trepidation about it...

There would absolutely be uproar about the Hornets (a team run by the league) trading a Superstar CP3 for Scola and Martin.

Can someone tell me why NO would prefer that deal over what the Celtics are offering? And also who's to say that the Lakers window for winning a championship is any wider than the Celtics'? Kobe is aging and has been playing with numerous injuries which he has foolishly ignored at times and they will come back to haunt him within the next few years.
If NO trades CP3 they should seek a point guard to replace him, Rondo is by far the best option out there for them right now.
If CP3 ends up with the Lakers I will be even more suspicious of the NBA and their efforts to collude and promote these Hollywood teams.

Would there be as much of an uproar if  it was phrased as Gasol/CP3?

I think it means that people are hearing about the deal from Houston or LA and then asking NOH about it and getting a negative reaction.

"Trepidation" means fear.

Its use in this context means that folks who don't have a very solid command of the English language should stay away from words they don't quite understand, lest they became the laughing stock of the Internetz :)
