Eric Gordon has outplayed Monta Ellis every year of his career.
Monta Ellis is not a quality starting two guard. He cannot defend or rebound his position. Monta Ellis costs his team (in terms of defense and possessions) more than he adds (with his scoring).
Monta Ellis is a high quality scoring PG and/or combo guard off the bench ... but he's a weak starting two guard.
And every year? The year before last Gordon had 17, 3, and 2.5 with 1 steal, compared to Monta's 25.5, 5, 4 and 2.
I get the hate for Ellis I really do, but when it comes to what he does, he's one of the best. That doesn't make him a playoff-caliber player, but Gordon hasn't proven he's one either.
Maybe my skepticism of young players as the centerpiece of a contending team is clouding my comparison, but I truly don't think Gordon is clearly head and shoulders above Ellis yet.
