  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Eric Gordon has outplayed Monta Ellis every year of his career.

Monta Ellis is not a quality starting two guard. He cannot defend or rebound his position. Monta Ellis costs his team (in terms of defense and possessions) more than he adds (with his scoring).

Monta Ellis is a high quality scoring PG and/or combo guard off the bench ... but he's a weak starting two guard.
I don't get how he's a bad starting 2 but a high quality scoring PG.  He and Curry both are interchangeable on the court.

I think Monta Ellis is a bad starting 2 because he can't defend other starting 2's. I think Stephen Curry is a poor starting 2 for the same reason.

As a backcourt, I hated it.

Yes -- Steph Curry would make a lousy starting SG too.

And, Steph Curry is not a two. He is a one. An out and out point guard. A really good passing PG at that. I can't wait for him to get out from underneath Monta Ellis' shadow. Ellis is holding his game back so badly.

I was putting more thought into who does Monta Ellis for, and I think I got it.

Nash led Suns with a defensive 3-5.

And every year?  The year before last Gordon had 17, 3, and 2.5 with 1 steal, compared to Monta's 25.5, 5, 4 and 2.

I get the hate for Ellis I really do, but when it comes to what he does, he's one of the best.  That doesn't make him a playoff-caliber player, but Gordon hasn't proven he's one either.

Maybe my skepticism of young players as the centerpiece of a contending team is clouding my comparison, but I truly don't think Gordon is clearly head and shoulders above Ellis yet.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I never said it was good.  But I thought more times than not Curry was guarding the 2s.

Not a big GS-watcher though so I can't say that with confidence.

I'd say, head to head matchup, I still lean your way though.

Well I appreciate that, and frankly, playoff seeding is not really that big a deal to me.

But you're saying a team that starts Baron Davis, Caron Butler, 34 year old 'I'm saving it for the Playoffs' Paul Pierce, 35 year old 'I'm also saving it for the playoffs' Kevin Garnett and Al 'No Defense' Jefferson is going to manage to stay focused, healthy, and consistent enough to achieve a higher number of playoff wins that my more talented, better put together, and more likable squad?

Yesterday before I left work you were saying you were leaning Blazers. Action told me quote 'You win' like 10 times.

So tell me, StartOrien, just what the crap is that list right there?!

AND I QUOTE

I am starting to reconsider. To me, it comes down to who provides a more significant point differential: Amare on KG vs. Pierce on Delfino. I think w/ limited help from Al Jefferson the edge might slightly go to the Blazers.

But I'm sure I'll change my mind another five hundred times

Maybe my skepticism of young players as the centerpiece of a contending team is clouding my comparison, but I truly don't think Gordon is clearly head and shoulders above Ellis yet.

Monta Ellis is a more talented player than Eric Gordon.

However, Eric Gordon is the more talented starting shooting guard.

Fair enough.  I still think he's in the discussion though.

The moral of the story is that the notion that Eric Gordon is not a go to guy is nonsense. Just ask Paul millsap and Deron Williams

This video again?

Gordon is without question a go-to scorer.  Whether or not he could be the number 1 option on a contending team is yet to be determined.
