Turned out its not a legal term, but it is a term that a guy like me that has seen thousands of hours of TV, read hundreds or thousands of books, and at one time was more familiar than most with the marvel universe, should've known. Retcon.
Retcon: v. to retroactively revise (a plot, storyline, character, event, history, etc.), usu. by reinterpreting past events, or by theorizing how the present would be different if past events had not happened or had happened differently.
