Thanks Roy.  The thing that bothered me was the use of racial pergoritives in the dance sequence.  They should not be used by Anyone of Any race, IMO.

Now this I can agree with you on.  It is not like they were out on the town they were in the work place playing that music.

But I have to say if me and my co-workers played that song and starting dancing around in the workplace...HR would be the least of our worries.

P.S. I do have to add I play that song in my car all the time lol.

I don't know your work environment, but surely it cannot compare to a professional sports locker room. They don't have a defined workplace. But if they did, it would be the court. It's more like you and your coworkers dancing to that song in the parking lot.

There are things they can say/do that us normal employees cannot, and alternatively there are things they cannot say/do that we probably can.

Yeah team locker rooms vs actual work environments is like comparing frat houses with hotels. You can't do luge shots in the lobby of a courtyard marriott.
I think we also need to remember that many things that there is nothing inherently wrong with many of the things that we can't do in the workplace. The only reason we can't do those things is because they might make the workplace uncomfortable for others.

If no one is going to feel uncomfortable, there isn't a problem.

Am I an idiot? I can't tell who the four dancers are. I know one of them is KG, he's wearing the jersey and looks pretty much like him. I have a reasonable suspicion that one of the ones in the back is Big Baby, with his extra topless girth and all. Who is the one in the front? Nate, right? Has to be. No idea who the other one is but he has braids...Marquis?

God I am an idiot. I am so behind on the times - I can't believe I am seeing this like five months after the fact and posting it. Apologies, everybody.

Judging from some of the other posts, I wouldn't beat yourself up too much.

Let me say this, KG is the most intense player in between those 94 ft lines, and shaq is supposed to be the biggest bad guy on the court also.. If you guys think any of this will carry on the court then you obviously don't know who we're putting on that floor night in and night out. I rather see them act young by being playful and bonding instead of going to a sportsbar taking shots. Everything is being done in house together, we're just lucky enough to witness it!

Let me say, I really am glad that they are having fun and bonding.  That is not the point.  This stuff gets out in the media.  These guys are heroes and role models to a lot of young people and it doesn't always show them in their best light, as far as being someone to emulate.  You may be of the school that thinks that they should not be held to a higher standard...I happen to be of the school that thinks everyone should be held to a higher standard...and sometimes we all fail but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try...

Oh please. Its called having a life and enjoying yourself. You don't like it, then don't watch. How about I criticize every waking moment of your life. You wouldn't like it

And btw, this isn't surprising to me, KG has always been like this, he just acts reserved to people he doesn't trust...

As someone else pointed out, what about this shouldn't younger people copy?? They have on halloween masks and are dancing wow, If there was some punk rock music playing and they were jumping around with air guitars it would be okay with you?? It's apart of their culture, if this is the worst behavior the NBA had to deal with they would love it!

Exactly! So right

You could criticize every piece of her life, but she's not a famous basketball player that gets paid tens of millions of dollars in salary and endorsements to not only play ball but also to represent the values of the organizations that back them. Personally, swearing doesn't bother me, but if it bothers her that's not unexpected. I bet it bothers a lot more people too, and I bet there are a significant number of people out there who don't want their kids watching this.

This is the exact reason Jalen Rose made those comments about Grant Hill

Calling him an Uncle Tom was out of bounds though, wrong, and misguided

His point was that this establishment does not allow blacks be and act like themselves. Constantly have to "calm down" their nature. Have to talk a certain way, dress a certain way, can't wear a blown out afro to get hired or to keep a job. Hip Hop music is thought of as "too abrasive" or "violent"

Obviously not every black person follows or supports that culture, but the ones who do live handicapped. Not even able to be themselves

They want to ban the N word when it means totally something different to black people. It is actually in the historical lexicon with ancient Egyptian kings were named "Negu", the word "NGR" in the Egyptian language actually means God. The African country named Niger. The "Naga" temples in South East Asia

Just had to clear that up

I'm not buying that for a second. That is probably all true, and political connectedness can absolutely go WAY too far, especially with race, but I would bet every dollar I've ever made combined with every dollar I probably ever will make that 98% of American people who regularly use the N-word are not referring to some kind of obscure historical context.

That would be like if someone called another person the F-word (the one that rhymes with bag, not the one that rhymes with buck) and said they meant he looked like a dog-eared cigarette. If they were British, maybe I'd buy it.

Ok, you can look it up yourself. And even if you don't want historical context, two current countries are called Nigeria and Niger. The point im making is that to think the N word was created as a hateful degrading word (which it wasn't) and we shouldn't use it anymore doesn't make any sense. The N word is a proud word, and in this culture it is demoralized. In some places in the country, its even used as a compliment.

Words are words, and we should not put so much stock in any of these words. If other races don't like black people using the word, then oh well. That is black people's choice, not anyone else's
