The signing doesn't excite me, because of West's substantial baggage and because I have zero fond memories of the mid-part of this decade.

However, I will acknowledge that it has the potential for more value - if West behaves - than most of Danny's ill-fated dumpster dives. West is no Paddy O'Blount, thank goodness.

Delonte always played with a lot of heart and had a knack for amazing blocked shots on bigs as they were going up with their shots.  He was definitely a plus and provided us fans with a lot of the fond memories from that ugly year.  besides, if we had gotten the rights to Durant that year, he'd probably still be on the team.

yuk, this trip down memory lane is tough and reminds me of szerbiak   :-X

What I remember about all that "heart and hustle" and blocks and all that is it usually came off the back of him getting ripped in the backcourt and he had to "hustle" back to clean up the mess.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

Yeah, the comic relief on this board comes from watching people cling to the refugees of that 24-win disgrace like they were members of a championship team.

West has some skills. He also has an absolute myriad of issues, but we're not committed to him and we can dump him at the first sign of deviant behavior.

Not a bad risk, certainly not as big a reach as O'Blount.

He was also a key rotation player for a couple of 60 win teams.

Just because he was on a 24 win team doesn't mean he can't ball.

Somebody wondered why Boston added another guard ... it's not that it needs guards, it needs shooters, guys who, if not great three-point shooters, are at least average from 3 and solid from the midrange, and West fits that bill. The two biggest needs last season, in my view, were lack of bigs, and lack of shooters. Boston now has Shaq and JO to help with the former, and West and Wafer to help with the latter. Most people focused on the poor rebounding — which was a legit issue — but the lack of good outside (even midrange) shooters was just about as big a problem; when Ray and Paul were out, there was little to stretch the floor until Nate joined the team late in the season — TA was horrible on 3s and even from midrange, and Quis wasn’t much better. Now the Cs have Nate, West and Wafer to stretch the floor for the bench. Yeah, if Pierce goes down, the Cs could be in trouble, but I guess you can only do so much preparing. At least Ainge has addressed the two biggest needs from last season.

This just means my autographed basketball and picture of DWest just became cool again.

Excited to have him back. He'll make a good back up 1/2 for us.

And it looks like we were, in fact holding onto number 13 for DWest.

Hard to call him a reach at all. He has been a legitimate NBA player for years. Nate, Wafer, Daniels and Baby all have plenty of flaws in their games. That's why they are bench players.

There is actually zero risk at this point since the contract is not guaranteed.

And for those who harp on the 24 wins, 3 of our starters were on that team too. I am not one to have a particular interest in bringing back guys, whether West, Gomes, Jefferson, etc. But West has legitimate NBA talent.

You really don't get it at all.

I'm glad we were able to get a player like West to fill out the roster, but I'd would of been happier if we could have gotten a serviceable SF/defender type.  But I guess with what is left out there that person may not have been very good.

I hope this doesn't cement Avery to the end of the bench.
