This is the closest draft we've had yet. So many teams of similar value (besides Minnesota which is clearly the best ;-)). I take this as evidence that quality of team gms have increased (that and for a few rounds the commish made picks).

I think modified snake and the fact there were so many veteran GMs this year also made it much more competitive.

in the east its funny.....most people agree on the teams in the playoffs but the distance varies greatly

agreed.  except my team has consistently been in the 5-7 range with i think once i saw a 9.  toronto has been the most variable without a doubt.  i've seen 1st and 2nd and also out of the playoffs completely

I gotta say the commissioner's best player available pick for teams really helped to keep competitive balance. If I remember right last year there was at least one team that got murdered right out of the gates because of not making picks in the 1st and/or 2nd round and there were a bunch of teams that shot themselves in the foot by missing picks in the value rounds(4-7) and then picking at the end of the round or a couple rounds later.

The commissioner's BPA pick might not be perfect for some teams, but they give them assets and assure the viability of franchises.

Just noticed this epic Southwest snub. Feelings about my own team aside. (Nawlins? IP?) This is the first time I can recall that an entire division has been left out of the playoffs? I'm not even sure how that scenario would work.

I left the Atlantic out of my top 8

That's funny, I had 3 Atlantic teams in my top 5 East.  I think New Jersey would probably be the most underrated team.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Despite my unreasonable love for all things Igoudala, I don't see it for the Nets. They don't have enough of anything for me. Not quite enough fire power, not quite enough defense. I think they struggle.

Although I myself think highly of the Nyets; the Atlantic is certainly a shallow. Still, I can't envision a scenario in which any NBA division sends 0 teams to the playoffs other than possibly space time implosion.

I keed, but the fantasy draft changes everything. Everyone starts off in the same place, so the chances of an entire division not being a top 8 team, while still low, is significantly higher than it would in the matrix.

I think their defense is pretty good and that's one of the reasons I have them winning the Atlantic.  Igoudala might not be ideal as a team leader, but he's got the pieces to make a run at the title.

I guess I just don't find the East that much better than the West (at least as much as some other people).  They've got more superstars but also more flaws.  For the most part I consider the top teams in the West better put together.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Don't remind me. Although didn't the Atlantic still send three teams to the playoffs that season?

I don't think Warrick and Nene are good enough. Admittedly, I'm not much of a Warrick guy though.
