I think this will ultimately end up being important, since our only options for signing players this offseason will be limited to re-signing Ray Allen, and the MLE. If we can retain Robinson without touching the MLE, this trade might be good. I guess it boils down to whether he'll pull an full MLE offer in the summer, since the difference between $4.8 million and $6 million is substantial.

Isn't it funny how the tides have changed on TA? I feel the same way. He really has solidified himself into the 2nd unit. I know he isn't Posey, but he does give us a high energy defensive stopper.

He is a classic SELL HIGH chance.  He has had a terrific season, but he is a role player. 

tony allen has a low basketball IQ...it seems as if we've been talking about his "potential" for years, but i have no faith it will become a reality.  this is the best time to pawn him off in a deal, as he's injury free and an expiring contract...and he's as good as he's gonna get.  hurry up and trade him before that secret gets exposed... 

And I hear the salmon and mashed potatoes in NY are sublime.

Does any of the CBA buffs out there know whether we will have Bird rights on Nate, if he gets traded to the Cs?

I am pretty sure he loses his bird right in any trade because he was only on a 1 year deal ,  but he would likely only command an MLE type deal next summer, I don't see any team giving him more than the MLE.

You don't lose bird rights in a trade, but the player has to be signed to a three year deal to be eligible for bird rights. Nate was obviously only signed to one.

Bird rights don't require a three year deal.  If a team signs a player to a 3 year contract, they'll have Bird rights at the end of the deal.  However, they'd also have Bird rights after signing a player to three separate one year deals, so long as the player didn't depart for another team via free agency or waiver.

However, in the case of a player playing on a one-year deal, where the player's team would have Bird rights at the end of that deal (either for the first time, or not), those Bird rights are extinguished upon a trade.

Robinson is not a cancer - he has just lost a lot of games ... D'Antoni runs a tight rotation and Robinson was not a fit ... so he did not get along with a coach.  He was not in the Knicks long term plans anyway.  Marbury was not a problem here off the court - our mistake was thinking he still was able to play. 

Robinson we know can actually play basketball - there is a ready role here for him, and he can put this team on his shoulders for stretches - not that we need it, but hey who can't enjoy the possibility.  In addition, it is a friendly contract - if the real cost is a late first round draft pick that is fair.  Honestly, if they could just swap our first and their second (probably gonna be in the 30s anyway) it'd be more than sufficient.

He did not work out because he could not a hit a jump shot or score. Not because he was crazy (which he was).

Really dont understand why people dont like this guy. Granted he is a little rough around the edges. but he could come in a possibly drop 40 points on a given night. He can Shoot and drive and able to bring up the ball unlike Eddie. Eddie was one of my favorite but has worn out this welcome with me. Cant penetrate at all. So I think Nate will help us a ton.

I think a lot has been made out of his attitude. I think it's a complete exaggeration overall.

It's NY Media putting a bad wrap on somebody when it isn't really justified... not like it's never happened before.

I think the Celtics wouldn't have minded having him back, on a veterans minimum salary.  Giving him an actual training camp to get into real basketball shape, there was an upside play to be had.  But one senses Marbury did not want to come back with that sort of arrangement.  Too much pride/self delusion.
