its not like we really even use of draft picks anyway....i mean giddens was a low first rounder and he hasn't done anything.

That was just last year.  Actually Lester Hudson turned out to be a very shrewd evaluation at #55 as it turns out.  Unfortunately they sacrificed his spot for more non-bball reasons - but he was good enough to be claimed.

But Hudson had the same problem Giddens did in terms of evaluation - drafting older guys is not in general a great use of late picks.

God I hope this isn't true

Can't stand the player

Can't stand his game

Can't stand his ego

Can't stand his attitude

Can't stand the thought of him on this team

TP  Mate.  Unimpressed and Underwhelmed by DA atm.

OK -- I, too, am not thrilled with Nate Robinson. However, I am willing to be convinced otherise.  If it's Eddie for Nate, I realize we lose nothing on the defensive end and gain a scorer/lose a shooter on the offensive end. Nate can shoot also, but can's shoot with the marxmanship of House.  House needed to be watched closely by the defense when on the perimeter and even though he has not been having a good year, he still garnered attention.  Yes, Robinson also garners attention, and while he can score and hustle, he seems no better than House as a passer. House's attitude has been a plus, and we've also seen House be clutch.  How has Nate been in at the end of close games scoring and at the FT line?

I don't see what the big deal is about giving up a 1st round pick. Is losing out on the next JR Giddens such a big deal? Especially when the team would have to give him a guaranteed contract when their payroll is high already.

Because it can't be used in a bigger trade, that helps the team more.

And it could be the next JR Giddens, or it could be the next Glen Davis, Carlos Boozer, Michael Redd, Gilbert Arenas, Rajon Rondo, etc.  Especially since the way the C's are playing right now, the pick could climb significantly higher than it was when they got Giddens.

Just because the last first round pick for the C's was a bust does not mean every late first round pick is a bust

Well, maybe. On the other hand, the vast majority of late first round draft picks don't end up panning out. Could it be another Boozer, Redd or Gilbert? Sure. But the chances of it being another JR is vastly greater. This is a trade that pretty clearly upgrades and addresses a weakness. Giving up a late first seems non-consequential to me.

I guess the problem is that I don't think the upgrade is that clear.  It has the potential for that, but nothing is a given when you are talking about bench players like this.

getting nate is a band-aid on a bullet hole....the celtics are still bleeding to death slowly. the big 3 are on fumes and not getting it done anymore and boston is tied to them like an iron cross. and it isn't like they have much to work with in the offseason to get them to an elite level.

Celtics fans are going to LOVE Nate Robinson.   He's like Marcus Banks if he was 7 inches shorter and could dunk.

Whose to say Nates game isn't upgraded when he plays on a team like the Celtics ? Different ballgame. Afterall, he has been playing on the NY Knicks.

One can shoot and the other can't but I do see similarity somewhat.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
Nate Robinson isn't even worth a first round pick, let alone adding a player to get him.  Sorry, I don't give the Knicks a first round pick, especially since the Celtics are now in decline mode, which elevates that pick slightly...

They are worth the playing time they get sadly.

I like your band aid on bullet hole analogy.

exactly....they can't even get time when key guys are out hurt...lets find someone that can do more than sit on the bench for 82 games

A very good point. Right now, it seems that it's the starters that are the problem, not the bench.
