Just read on Hoopshype that GSW has considered trading Ellis for Ray in hopes of better developing Curry.. SIGN ME UP

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yketlcx

Boston gets Radmanovic, Randolph and Ellis
GS gets Ray, BBD and Giddens plus some draft picks

I love this trade b/c it gives us a young athletic scoring machine to play alongside Rondo. Plus since this is clearly a better worded salary exchange on their behalf, so Danny should demand a Randolph and BBD swap. Radmanovic was purely to give us a SF and to make the money work, but Raja Bell could be traded instead.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Why? Ray is old(Clutch) but still old. Plus if Danny AINGE plays like Danny FERRY, then Ray could be asked to be bought out just to return. That way we could have Ellis play the Ginobli role(6th man playing starter minutes)

Rondo,Ray,Pierce,KG,Perk
Ellis,Tony,Quis,Randolph,Sheed
House,Bell or Radman,Sheldon,Walker
Can't stop, Rondo!

Why?

Looking at this from a negative point of view:  5 years, $55 million after this year, for an undersized shooting guard who can't shoot, who turns the ball over way too much and who rubs people in his organization the wrong way.

Monta is a heck of a scorer, and Danny loved him in high school.  However, he needs the ball in his hands to succeed, and there's a real concern about how he'd fit with Rondo.

For the next 2-3 years I think this one is a no-brainer (YES). I love Ray Ray, but Ellis at 25 and 26 is going to be a better player than Ray at 35 and 36.

I think the questions are:

* Does he meld with Rondo?
* Will he prevent us from "blowing it up" in a couple of years?

It's intriguing at least. The athleticism of a Rondo / Ellis backcourt would be something to watch, that's for sure.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I was for this deal than after some more thought I changed my mind. An undersized turnover prone Chucker who doesn't defend and seems to be a team cancer. Yes, thats basically what Ellis is when you look at it.

Basically, he's a poor man's AI, without the toughness or defense (when AI actually tried to play defense).

With them both on the court, put Randolph at C and a couple fillers at the 3 and 4, and they could run a constant fast break.

Undersized? Yes. Can't shoot? Eh...shooting stroke needs work. When GS beat us in December, I remember Ellis dropping 30 on us and shooting above 50% with most of the shots being jumpers.
I think he needs work with consistency, but the guy can flat out score from everywhere, especially around the basket.
IF He and Rondo could mesh, plus we could get Randolph out of this, why not? We would essentially have 4/5 positions set for the next 5-7 years - Rondo,Ellis,SF,Randolph,Perkins
Can't stop, Rondo!

I don't see a Rondo/Ellis partnership working too well.  Too small defensively.

As a 6th man he'd be fantastic but he's too expensive for that.

I'd prefer Maggette, Bell and Turiaf in exchange for Ray.  Maggette's just as potent as Ellis offensively and would cause far fewer mismatches defensively.

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

He actually shoots a very good percentage for a volume scorer, something AI never did.

I'm pretty sure Ellis was guarding Brandon Jennings for that 55 point game...

I would be doing this deal if we could get Ray back on the return. Or get Raja in the Deal. Ellis/Rondo would have a hard time on D but would strive on Offense. They could run for days and could be a great building block to the future. However I don't see it happening but hey i would be for it. All we can do is see what happens.
