  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I can see what Bahku is saying, and while I vehemently disagree with it, as he said, it is irrational. It's liked saying you wouldn't trade Pierce for Kobe. I hate Kobe. I do, I just plain hate him, and if I was GM and Mitch called me up and said "IP? i can call you IP, right?", I'd say "My friends call me IP. You call me 'Mr Proceed'. What do you want?"..and if he said "Mr. Proceed, sir, I'd like to trade Kobe for Paul Pierce."

My head would say homerun, but I don't know if I could pull that trigger after the last 11 years. That's irrational. I get where Bahku is coming from. Don't agree, but I get it.

i've been reading this thread and imo, you people are lunatics with green glasses so   concrete you can't see the bigger picture. perk and bbd for big al? i'd do that in a heartbeat. then there are talks about people not willing to trade perk for d-howard. are you serious? a role player for a superstar?

of course the other teams involved would probably never do these deals but if i were gm i would pull the trigger without second thought.

If you had read my whole post you'd know that I prefaced it by saying it had "nothing to do with his game" and that I said my reason for not wanting Howard was an "irrational dislike" for the guy, and that I couldn't discuss it objectively for that reason.

Please, if you're going to call people names like "lunatics", (which is a bit outside what's accepted here), you might want to base it on something more substantive than an irrational dislike for a player. We all have our favorites, and we all have those we dislike for whatever reason ... Howard is one of those for me.

But please do NOT confuse that with my saying I think he's a lousy baller, or that Perk is better, or even that Perk is of equal value in a trade ... because I never said or even implied any such thing, nor would I. I don't like the guy, I don't want him in green, but it has nothing to do with his basketball skills. I hope it's a bit clearer this time. ;)

Here's the post you referred to:

No ... but it has nothing to do with his game, I just completely dislike the guy and his arrogance, so don't ask me to get into an objective discussion about it. Everyone has a few players who they just dislike for what may be irrational reasons ... he's on that list for me, along with Kobe, LeBron, and CP3, (among others).

Arrogance is a silly reason due to this fact: the Celtics have equally arrogant players that you are able to like.

Rondo is as arrogant as anyone in the NBA, but since he is a Celtic, star haters give him a pass. The same would be true if we traded for Howard. He would get that same free pass.

The need that some have to dislike opponents and to make up reasons for this dislike is easily switched around once a trade goes through.

I dislike the guy, it's irrational, as I CLEARLY STATED ... that's my opinion and my right ... I don't want him here, dressed in green. EVERYONE has players they don't want to see on the Celtics ... he's one of those for me. It's absolutely amazing to me that I can preface my post by saying "Please don't ask me to have an objective discussion about it because it's irrational dislike" and yet people still make an issue of it and still want to have an objective discussion!  :P

The point of trades is to make your team better. While chemistry is an issue, who would not agree that this team would be better with Howard as our starting center? Therefore supporting my argument that you would be crazy if you were offered that trade and didn't take it. I'm sure if Howard was already a Celtic, you would have no problem coping with his "arrogance." As stated above, the Celtics have some of the most arrogant players in the league on their roster.

Well, that's your opinion, and you're certainly entitled to it, but I disagree. As it is, he is NOT a Celtic, and his arrogance and the NBA's endless stroking of his ego, along with the incredible farce of the Slam-Dunk competition, (with that stupid cape and a "dunk" that wasn't even a dunk), is the kind of stuff that turns my stomach. I generally assess things as they are, not as they could be or might be, as anything else is moot. I allow others the right to their opinions, and that's all the consideration I ask for in return.
