People have already listed good reasons why he won't work.

On a personal note, I hate him. I can't stand him. I wouldn't watch a game with him on the team.
Peace through Tyranny

Omg Yes!   The games are entertainments and this organization has brought some great players in for me to watch.  I can't believe I got to see KG and Ray Allen play Celtics ball.  Sheed?!?  It was like a dream having him play with the team. Shaq played in Boston!!  And possibly the great Allen Iverson??,  fan heaven imho.

Here's the simple fact: if there is a season, we need to find ways to not overplay the Big Three.

While AI doesn't fit a lot of general criteria of what we need (big man, lock down defender at the 3, etc.), he could conceivably be a scoring option off of the bench that could allow Doc to rest Ray and Paul more.

In fact, he might just be the perfect option to play with the bench players, since he could essentially be the #1 option on a potential "second team."

On top of all of this, people need to get off of their high horses.  It'd be one thing to be selective if this was 2008 or even 2010, but we certainly are beggars now, and we can't be choosers.

We need to find some way to improve this roster, and while I certainly wouldn't bet on AI working out, I think he's certainly worth a gamble at the minimum.

agreed -- no AI.

best case scenario is he's Marbury 2.0 with an attitude.  Practice?  We talkin' 'bout practice?

worst case, he's not even Marbury, just a disruption in the locker room that needs to be cut loose  and a bad decision that costs us a chance to sign someone who might actually help out and fit in with the team.

Well, I sort of started this topic on the high horse with the notion of staying there  ;), unless jousted off.

We need to find some way to improve this roster, and while I certainly wouldn't bet on AI working out, I think he's certainly worth a gamble at the minimum.

In my other thread, I'd mentioned my feelings on the notion of a true sixth man. Since the triumvirate of Posey, Brown, and Powe had left, our bench has seldom been able to sustain a lead or go on a scoring spree, sans the titular Shrek/Donkey event of '10.

Part of it is that they don't have a real sixth man extraordinaire, like a pre-injury Ginobilli.

Well, who's the Ginobilli of the northeast … aside from Paul Pierce?

Thus, if we force the starting five to incorporate SF-Green and one of the 'centers', then we're not hampered by the current M.O. which implies that the starting five needs to blow out every team, just so that the bench can give back the lead. The new M.O. will be that the starters will have their turn, and then, the bench will have their own. That makes for a better game management system in terms of playing all the pieces of a chess game stratagem.

Therefore, I say, work on a bench which complements Paul Pierce's game and then, we have a situation that'll work out for the team as a whole.

I'll just be happy if there is a 2011-12 Celtics team.  If there is, bring on Iverson, Arenas, Toine, whoever...I'll take it.

Perkins can hit you and hurt you as much as the NBA will let people these days.
What can AI do to you? He wouldn't intimidate me and I'm a 6'4" skinny white guy from NC.

AI is done. And he was never a team player or a championship caliber player. Ask Bird or Jordan if they practiced. He's nothing but trash and one of the reasons people don't like the NBA as much anymore.
Peace through Tyranny

For those Videos I did some research on them and his play.   They are pretty decietful overall once you look at the games and his play.   They amount to highlights and little more.

1)  A celebrity classic game was a joke.  My grandmother at 88 could play better D than I saw in that game.

2)  As for the Bulls game it was in 09-10.  He shot .39% from the field that night and scored 13 points and 3 assists and 2  TO's in 29 minutes.  Rose scored 17 points and shot .44% from the field with 1 TO and six assists in 33 minutes.  Too bad some of those crossovers amount to too many stats.   Do him a favor and at least post a game he did well in next time.

3)  As for the Turkey league stats. He is broke so he has to try to play.  I think he has gambling issues which is sad.  It's bad enough that he isn't allowed in certain casino's.

as for him doing well over there that is up to debate.

You will see he averages 12 PPG and his team if 5-5 over there in this article.

now for those who don't know Beşiktaş is not the top tier of Euro basketball it's their ABA.

Here is some more vintage Iverson.

As for being a thug.  I don't think he could steal the lunch money from my 13 year old.  But my 13 year old is 6'3".

No to Iverson!  He was a great player but now he is washed up.  I am a Celtic fan not a AI fan.  He would not help us and only hurt us at his point.

I don't think I've ever seen a 6'3" 13 year old before.  You better have that kid on the court everyday!!
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I do.  He can be the scoring threat that we so desperately need from the second unit, even if he does take ill advised shots
