would you'all please explain to me what tony allen did to be seen as this promising player. i understand that before his first knee injury - which ocurred after a whistle on a throw-away show-off dunk (typical stupid tony allen move) - that tony allen was believed to have promise.
since i wasn't able to see the celtics much on tv during that season before allen hurt himself, can you tell me what kind of player he was that warranted this irrational love affair danny ainge seems to have with the guy
?
That was actually his second ACL injury, I believe. He got hurt the first time running from the police when he got Will Bynum out for dinner in Chicago as a congratulations gift for getting signed by the Celtics. He then got into a fight with someone named Mark Twaine, I think and someone ended up getting shot. This is also most likely where his death threats were coming from in the playoffs against the Bulls.
Anyway, Tony before he got hurt again was just fearless. Absolutely fearless when it came to driving to the basket. He still had the athletic ability to make amazing dunks in traffic, even after that knee injury. I remember he had that one against Denver where Carmelo Anthony literally pushed Earl Boynkins out of the way so he didn't get dunked on.
He could also shoot a lot better than he can now, and he rebounded pretty good for his size, as well. When Pierce went down he picked up a good amount of the scoring load, him and Al Jefferson. It was starting to look like he was going to be a legit NBA starter and that we would of had a playoff team with the development of him, Al Jefferson and then the return of Pierce. Of course, that was also the season we won 24 games.
Thats why he was hyped so much, and now he can't do anything really useful.
