The Pacers and Celtics are having headaches trying to move a role player. What’s this offseason come to? “While the Pacers and Celtics still hope to find a third team to make a sign-and-trade deal for Marquis Daniels work, a source said it appears Daniels will likely end up signing with the Celtics for the biannual exception.”

Seems no one wants our trash.

I cant believe this signing was announced a month ago but there has been nothing official since. First time I have heard of this type of 'either we sign and trade for you or we sign you to the bi-annual exception' deal

and yet, i can guarantee you that a number of cb posters will contintue to offer forth trade ideas that include tony, scal, giddens, and walker and expect to receive a credible nba player in return.

 :(

Funny. Every time I hear "no one wants our trash" I'm reminded of the number of times I read that before Danny made the Ray and KG trades.

At this point I assume Marquis will be joining our time sometime around 2011.

Yeah I can't ever remember any offseason move take this long after already being essentially announced. It's clear Danny still holds out hope for moving TA somehow. The thing that sucks about using the LLE is you can only sign Daniels to a 2-yr deal with the second as a player option. That way if he tears it up this year, it could take the MLE next year to get him back. So essentially we need a S&T to get him for more than a year. I wonder how long the C's will wait before just outright signing him..

At this point it should be pretty clear Daniels is committed to coming here and not going to pull a Hedo on us. If that is the case there is absolutely NO reason to do anything other than sit and wait and hold out hope that someone out there has a deal that they need done that could involve  us moving TA and a sign and trade with Indiana. If he is a certainty we might as well keep our options.

I agree with you, and if Tony's stock is based on the opinions expressed on this blog to any degree, we may have a problem ever moving him for anything more than a middle finger in return.

Funny, but this is clearly a completely different situation. We had young guys who actually played in the NBA back then, like Gomes, Delonte, and Al. We also had a large expiring contract in Ratliff.

Now we have guys who have shown less in the NBA than Gerald or Bassy (Giddens and Walker) or guys with small expiring contracts (TA and Scal) that can't get us much due to little interest.

Why if he signs an LLE is the second year guaranteed to be a player option? Could you please explain that.

He's assuming that Daniels would rather have a short term contract at such a low salary rather than a two year deal.

Because it would be quite ridiculous for Marquis to sign a contract like that. He would be delirious, and I guarantee you that if that's all it would take to have Marquis guaranteed for two years this deal would've been done weeks ago.

I don't see it that way and we will have to see. You are what worth what someone is willing to pay you and lots and lots of players are finding out they aren't worth in this market what they think they are. Sessions, Lee, Felton, Iverson, Kleiza, Davis, CJ Watson, and a host of others were expecting bigger deals and signed for much less or have yet to sign.

Daniels might get that deal but if the C's deal of 2 years no option is all they offer and they have the control in the situation, he might have to take it.

Yeah, if the C's sign Daniels to the LLE, it would just be a another Posey situation. Guy signs for short money for a year, becomes a contributor on a championship team, thereby visibly increasing his value and then leveraging it into a nice contract that the C's don't want to match. I don't think the C's want that again..

Why couldn't they just sign him to the maximum two year LLE? He may not have a lot of options open to him and if he's committed to being on a contender and in Boston, it might be the only offer he gets.

Interestingly enough all the ones you mentioned are restricted free-agent. Except for Iverson, and the dude is a wierd scenario. I do agree with the premise that players aren't making what they're worth this season, but 2 million for two years for Marquis is simply not a good deal for him and he wouldn't sign something like that.

It was hard enough imagining that he would be available to us at the price of 2 million, I simply can't imagine any scenario in which Marquis would sign a two year deal for that price. Who knows what offers he has been getting from other teams though, and he simply wants to play with Boston. But two years guaranteed for low money? I simply don't see it.

Well he really has nothing to lose by only signing for a year. It's hard to come down much from the LLE. Closest to worst-case scenario is he has to sign for the vet min. A player option is the best possible deal for him. If it looks like he's going to get better money elsewhere, opt out, if not don;t..
