ATTENTION! They picked that story up from the Indy Star. And the Indy Star is just re-reporting 3 week old news. Boring.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!  I'm gonna smash something.

Just about to post the same thing, just read it in the IndyStar.  Getting Marquis for $2m per would be a nice moral victory for the team - the man had what was pretty much a career year and will be taking a 70% or so pay cut.  A nice bargain.

But without that Bi annual exception it means our summer is over.

We signed sheed to the MLE and Shelden to the Vets minimum so it means no more signings for us this summer which sucks cos it would be nice to pick up a vet back up PG

I agree that a vet backup PG is the next priority.

I don't know if you meant that literally or if "our summer is over" is hyperbole, but a team over the cap, like the Celtics, can sign as many players to the Veteran's Minimum as we like.

We could waive Tony Allen, sign M. Daniels to the LLE, and sign 2 more guys to the Vet. Min.

What makes you think that the team is prepared to Waive Tony and just eat that much salary and luxury tax?

Exactly, there is no way they eat that.  Scal and TA are the two best chips we have.

Here is the exchange between Red's Army and Marquis Daniels ("lambo6") on Twitter :

@lambo6 Think there's a chance you'll officially become a Celtic this coming week 'Quis...? Thx.

@KWAPT week r so

Even if we assume that this Twitter user is the real Daniels, we just get the "the deal will be done before the end of this week" speech that we've heard for... what? 4 weeks in a row now?

It's boring but I still hope that we can acquire Daniels by a sign & trade rather than with the bi-annual exception.

Let this also be a reminder to everyone who wants to post a "trade Tony Allen" scenario in the next few months: Larry Bird would rather let Marquis Daniels go for nothing than have to take on Tony Allen.  TA has ZERO value (except for possibly as a salary filler in a larger trade).

Sorry, but this argument makes no sense. Daniels is better than Tony, the Pacers chose not to pickup Daniels' option so they infact let him go out of their own accord.

Why would they take on a lesser player adding unnecessary salary for a position they don't need player for? Considering that they are right at the tax cap or near it, getting Tony Allen makes no sense for them... he's not a substantial upgrade in any shape or form to anyone they have on their roster currently, and it could cost them quite a bit.

Tony's greatest value is in relieving salary from teams... he does the opposite in this scenario.

The Pacers and Celtics are having headaches trying to move a role player. What’s this offseason come to? “While the Pacers and Celtics still hope to find a third team to make a sign-and-trade deal for Marquis Daniels work, a source said it appears Daniels will likely end up signing with the Celtics for the biannual exception.”

According to ESPN's Trade Machine, the following teams have trade exceptions of $2.5 million or larger, making them a possible "third team" to help make a Daniels sign and trade happen:

Denver
Miami
New Jersey
Orlando
Houston
Lakers
Clippers
New Orleans

Most of these teams have high payrolls and wouldn't be inclined to take on more money and an additional luxury tax hit just to be helpful, even if Allen might help them (Houston and New Orleans, for instance, could both use a young SG).

The Clippers might be the only real option here. They recently used some cap space to acquire Rasual Butler at no cost (a 2nd rounder). If Boston throws Sterling a 2nd rounder and some cash, might that be enough?

Maybe the Clips would bite prior to them picking up Butler, but doubtful now. I'm pretty sure the C's have probably tried to move Allen to all the under the cap teams.

Just read on Realgm that Big Baby's contract has 500K weight bonuses for each year, thats nuts.

Beyond nuts.  I just can't fathom that the esteemed Celtic organization has to have that in the contract b/c the player can't be counted on to not be out of shape.  I'm sure the criteria isn't very strict either.

As long as we get Daniels I'm happy... I really don't care how.

Seems no one wants our trash.

I cant believe this signing was announced a month ago but there has been nothing official since. First time I have heard of this type of 'either we sign and trade for you or we sign you to the bi-annual exception' deal

and yet, i can guarantee you that a number of cb posters will contintue to offer forth trade ideas that include tony, scal, giddens, and walker and expect to receive a credible nba player in return.

Why would you waive TA? Who are the 2 players you are thinking of?

I would waive JR before TA.
But without that Bi annual exception it means our summer is over.

It's incredible this hasn't been resolved yet.  When did this break, around July 17th?

At this point I assume Marquis will be joining our time sometime around 2011.
